'Too hot to handle': Pelosi predicts GOP won't trigger another shutdown

Source: Politico

The House speaker discusses Trump’s border wall, impeachment and the 2020 presidential campaign in an exclusive interview with POLITICO.

By HEATHER CAYGLE, SARAH FERRIS and JOHN BRESNAHAN 02/07/2019 05:00 AM EST

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is vowing that the federal government will not shut down again, even as President Donald Trump ratchets up pressure for his border wall ahead of a fast-approaching deadline.

“There will not be another shutdown,” Pelosi confidently asserted during a half-hour interview Wednesday in her Capitol office. “No, it’s not going to happen.”

After the 35-day shutdown — and the political drubbing that Trump and Republicans took during the record-breaking impasse — Pelosi predicted GOP leaders won’t go down that road again.

“I have a club that I started, it’s called the ‘Too Hot to Handle Club.’ And this is a too-hot-to-handle issue,” Pelosi quipped.

Shutting down the government once was brutal on his approval ratings, they're only now starting to nudge back up. He does it again and they'll crash.

Don't say that , Nancy. You just DARED him to shut it down.

And that means he HAS to take the challenge.

Did you learn NOTHING when you said he would never be President?

He LIVES to contradict you.

As somebody who will be the person furloughed at the end of next week, I would ask you to stop making such statements, and just do your job. NOBODY wins when you antagonize him, and he flips out and does it just to prove he can.

Nancy tipped her hand and as you said basically dared him to act - a very bad move when dealing with a arrogant narcissistic ass. Damn, I so wish she hadnt done that because now the shutdown has just become way more likely. He hates us and cares nothing for the party, just doing what PUtin says. So he won't fear the election because he thinks PUtin will steal it for him again and he can do anything he personally wants to.

Bad, bad move from the usual Ninja master.

The rethugs can simply override a veto. Don the can does not have the unlimited power he thinks he does. All the gop Senate has to do is stand up and have enough votes to override the narcissist’s threats. He only has power over the senate if they give it to him.

It's in his stubborn, stupid, narcissistic nature. He doesn't give a shit about the damage it will have. He wants to grandstand and *win*.

Pelosi is in a comfortable place right now. She went through this kind of thing with W. She excels at running the House when the Senate and/or White House is openly hostile.

They're going to see a lot of quits as people find new jobs. Many low paid contractors are not going to be able to deal with another shutdown.

before the next election. Any candidate has to hand over a few years worth of tax returns. A physical should be required, by an independent medical professional. Never again should this country be subjected to a disgrace such as tRump. He has made this country a worldwide laughingstock. The gop are also to blame, they must be knee deep in Russian money, to support a loser like tRump.

If he does shut down the government, the Republicans are going to have to vote with the Democrats and override his Veto or lose big time in 2020.

In my opinion, voters generally vote based on what is happening NOW, not what happened last year.

That's why I don't expect enough GOPers to defect and override a veto.

IF this junk repeats in 2020, then actions may change.
