Jeff Bezos Accuses National Enquirer of Blackmail

Source: New York Times

SEATTLE — Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s chief executive and the world’s richest man, accused the owner of The National Enquirer on Thursday of trying “extortion and blackmail” to stop his investigation into how his private text messages and photos with his mistress were leaked to the tabloid.

In an extraordinarily personal online post, Mr. Bezos said intermediaries of David Pecker, the chairman of American Media Inc., the nation’s biggest tabloid news publisher and owner of The National Enquirer, had approached him to stop his investigation. Mr. Bezos said he had been told that if he refused, the publisher would make risqué and intimate photos of the billionaire and his mistress, Lauren Sanchez, public.

“Of course I don’t want personal photos published, but I also won’t participate in their well-known practice of blackmail, political favors, political attacks and corruption,” Mr. Bezos wrote of A.M.I., explaining why he had decided to speak out. “I prefer to stand up, roll this log over and see what crawls out.”

The matter began last month when Mr. Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, announced that they were getting divorced. The couple disclosed their separation just before The National Enquirer published an article exposing that Mr. Bezos was having an affair with Ms. Sanchez, a former television host who is also married.

Exactly the way the Enquirer has played others for fools. Occasionally the evil assholes bite out more than they can chew, and the chewing destroys the "evil assholes." Strange indeed. 2 evil assholes will be defeated. Mr Pecker will go down...and so will Mr. Trump. But Trumpy will not be defeated by a man, in the end, the power of the House of Representatives, led by a lady will bring Trumpy down. Along with Mr. Mueller, Nancy Pelosi will ultimately one way or another knock Humpty Trumpty off the wall.....
.....And..all the king's horses and all the kings men, will not be able to put Humpty Trumpty together again.......poor Humpty Trumpty.............

..........thank you, and thank you...........

First, I would never have an affair with a married man. Second, I just don't get the text-message-private-parts thing. The majority of the pictures were of him, sent to her. If someone had asked me beforehand, I would have guessed that men would rather *get* pictures like this than *send* them, but obviously I would've been wrong!

I’ve gotten a few. I’ve been shocked and felt violated. They wanted the “favor” returned. That and the sense of violation/power are, I think, what gets them off. As a slightly older, more wise woman, I think I would type, lHahahahaha!” I’m also extremely kind and sensitive to others, which can be a curse, so maybe I’m just kidding myself.

(snip)
There is no way to predict what consequences may stem from the tabloid’s threat to publish a picture of Bezos’s genitalia. But the National Enquirer may be at additional legal risk. In its plea deal with federal prosecutors, AMI pledged not to “commit any crimes subsequent to the date of the signing of this agreement”. The penalty for violation would be to void the immunity agreement and open the company up for prosecution.

Look, that original deal was WAY too good for what he offered. All the FBI got was corroborating testimony to Cohen's, and he had tapes and other corroborating info.

So why did pecker get immunity, which is normally reserved for the most important charges? Pecker was incidental to the campaign violations, which were incidental to the entire probe.

Someone gave him a sweetheart deal. Someone in the sdny is protecting him. Pecker feels immune from ANY prosecution, or he wouldn't be so stupid as to send incriminating email.

Also, it would explain where he got the text messages. Any LEO can get anyone's texts through a very simple process thanks to the patriot act. It can be done electronically and doesn't require a judge. Forget the nsa, a county cop can get them, but certainly any fbi agent could.

This would also explain the change of heart among many gop pol's. Who else has pecker blackmailed with "we are going to run a story about....".

If his deal doesn't get pulled, and no charges are brought against him by feds, there is your answer.
