Netanyahu gives up role as Israel's foreign minister

Source: Reuters

FEBRUARY 17, 2019 / 8:51 AM / UPDATED AN HOUR AGO

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday handed over his role as foreign minister to intelligence minister Israel Katz, giving up the portfolio he has held since 2015.

Netanyahu’s decision to appoint Katz as acting foreign minister came after an advocacy group, the Movement for Quality Government, went to court to press the prime minister to stop serving as foreign minister as well.

Government officials said Katz, who will remain intelligence minister and also serves as transport minister, will hold the foreign affairs portfolio through the upcoming parliamentary election on April 9. Katz is a member of Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party,

In addition to the premiership, Netanyahu still holds the defense portfolio, which he assumed after his former far-right coalition partner Avigdor Lieberman quit that post in November. Netanyahu is also health minister.

Sounds like he runs/ran the entire government. Minister of everything.

Ironic to run defense and health both.

Traditional Jewish funerals are natural burials. No cremation. No embalming. Just pure Human body rotting in the ground. Not sure it'll matter in death, he's already putrid now.

Orthodox tradition calls for plain wood casket. No linings or anything fancy. Just a star of David. Body wrapped in linen.

That there aren't enough ultra-right-wing politicians in Israel to form the government Bibi wants.

Sooner or later, they're going to have to get Likud out of there.

I know there are liberal Israelis. I see them in parades in Tel Aviv all the time; LGBTQ, mercy for the Palestinians, etc.

.... just wait until trDump and Bolton need a big political distraction (think Mueller), then the warmongers will rattle their sabers and beat the drums for war with Iran.

Too many Fascist warmongers calling the shots it these governmental institutions of Israel and the USA.

The Fascist American Religious Right is a very dangerous component in this equation and holds extra ordinary power and influence over Middle Eastern Policies.

They don't have enough people to fill these roles?

Or does he not trust anyone around him.

So I figured he must have been forced to, or he got a more powerful position to replace it.

It looks like he gave it up or be forced to resign, so he chose the former.

Interesting

The only positive thing I can think of in this whole affair is that Netanyahu is better than Avigdor.
That said, no one should be Prime Minister + something else. And no one should run two ministries.
Some people (Katz) shouldn't run anything at all
