President Donald Trump may currently be in Hanoi, Vietnam preparing for his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jung Un, but the public testimony of his former attorney Michael Cohen is still very much on his mind.
We know this because of a very early 4 AM tweet (EST) in which the commander in chief preemptively dismissed the role that Cohen played in both the Trump Organization and the Trump Campaign. Trump said via Twitter:

While Trump prepared for his historic summit with Kim, a 20-page prepared testimony of Michael Cohen was released that reportedly revealed many explosive details including the possession of evidence that Trump committed crimes while sitting in the nations highest office and allegations that Trump was well aware of the Wikileaks dump of information damaging to the Hillary Clinton campaign.

(47,229 posts)though in this case, he could be trying to distance himself from "Trump" as well as Cohen. Maybe this is his way to escape the reality of the horrible world that he as "Trump" has created. Everything about him is so weird and abnormal.

(12,563 posts)If Fat Donnie's referring to himself in the third person bothers you, you're in good company. Bill Gates recalls his initial meeting with President (sic) Trump this way:
When I walked in, his first sentence kind of threw me off. He said: Trump hears that you dont like what Trump is doing. And I thought, Wow, but youre Trump. I didnt know the third party-form was always expected. Gates says that Gates knows that youre not doing things right.
Referring to oneself in the third person is called "illeism."
When we hear it happen, habitual illeism tends to signal to the rest of us one of a number of personality quirks in the speaker, none of them good: A stunted intellect (Sloth loves Chunk); the presence of psychotic personality disorders (Smeagol hates nasty Hobbitses); rampant egoism (Doctor Doom shall be master of Earth!); or a journalist using horribly awkward turns of phrase that belong in the print era (at least, thats in the opinion of your present author). "The Psychology of Referring to Yourself in the Third Person"
Referring to yourself in the third person creates distance between "I" and "he." So if you have an exaggerated view of how great you are, you could be using this distance to make yourself even bigger. Or, if you've achieved major success suddenly, using the third person could be a way to adjust to the bigger role that's been assigned to you. It's a way to enlarge yourself to fit that role...People love to rip those who refer to themselves in the third person, but they don't understand the power that comes with it. The third person is how you indicate that the topic is not open for debate. You are speaking about facts that just so happen to include you. "Why the F%$# Do People Refer to Themselves in the Third Person?"
Illeism isn't unique to Donald Trump. SNL satirized Bob Dole's use of it during his presidential campaign. Sesame Street's Elmo always refers to himself that way, although that might mimic a child's use of their own name until the concept of "I" takes hold. Many athletes talk to themselves in third person to calm themselves down, as did Andre Agassi during his his tennis playing days.
The final word goes to J.K. Rowling, who tweeted: "I wonder if Trump talks to Trumpself in the third Trumperson when Trump's alone?"

(11,884 posts)But will he go before Congress under oath and speak , and answer their questions. He refused too after claiming he would for Mueller, and lied about doing it. Now he wants to attack Cohen as a liar , but he's the one who can't speak under oath. Only con men and liars do this, not someone honest. I wish the media would spend zero time or very little with this Kim PR event he's having for putin now, and they shouldn't keep enabling him by covering it when they know it all could be lies what he claims for attention for himself falsely, when he knows its lies. Its another distraction against Cohen testifying, that's all it is.
