(56,828 posts)same age as Luke Perry - he was less than 2 months older than me. May he Rest in Peace.
I remember a lot of guys around my age adapting sideburns at the time and I think 90210 was one of the leaders in that trend at the time.

(13,891 posts)Sometimes it just catches up to you.. I'm curious if it was a massive bleed or a blockage. Most older people get a blockage that shoots up to the brain. As the plaque goes farther and farther up the blood vessels get narrow. When it can't go any farther, the blood is blocked and all the tissue from there on dies. Like a heart blockage but in the head. Now if a blood vessel was weak and burst, that would cause the same effect but different mechanism of actuation.
I've seen massive CVA's in the brain with young people.. Sometimes they recover and sometimes they don't.

(9,895 posts)I am on meds but struggling mightily with the diabetes and my blood pressure is genetically high (mom, dad, sister, brother, grandparents - ALL hypertensive...).
I was a fan of his portrayal of Dylan McKay on the original "Beverly Hills 90210" back in the 90's, this just makes me feel old, vulnerable and realizing more and more that life is never a guarantee and that it can all be over in a flash for any of us, but for those of us at greater risk, it is really a gut punch and shot across the bow too.
Rest in peace Luke, gone from us too soon indeed.

(37,648 posts)Starting right now, I'm going to diet to take off those 5 lbs I've gained. And go for a blood-pressure-lowering walk.
This is a wake-up call, for sure.

(30,733 posts)My brother is diabetic and he has to watch his blood pressure. My husband and I nagged him about that at one time. His cholesterol was bad, too.
My brother had a stroke at 52 and survived. He has a leg and foot that do not work well. He walks with a cane. He has a numb spot on his left arm, too.
He was very lucky. NOW he watches things, after a stroke and about a year's worth of physical therapy. Don't let yourself go! Take care of your health.

(5,810 posts)at a fairly young age? He had had hypertension problems, I believe. Luke Perry May have had BP issues as well. You dont have to be massively overweight to have hypertension, He may have been on a medication that has stroke as a possible side effect. We hear lawyer ads every day warning us about drugs that will kill. Plus, the drug ads themselves tell us some of the nasty side effects....because they are forced to reveal that.
It is shocking when someone dies at that age but we just dont enough about his medical history to know why he died. Maybe his family will reveal more but I wouldnt be surprised if they dont.
Rest In Peace and comfort to his family.

(21,646 posts)There are many stories today due to Luke Perry's death mentioning warning signs for a stroke and the FAST warning tip
1 out of 20 deaths in US
To spot the warning signs of a stroke, the American Heart Association recommends using the letters "F.A.S.T.," which stand for:
Face dropping: Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? Ask the person to smile to see if his/her smile is uneven or lopsided.
Arm weakness: Is the arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise raise both arms to see if one arm drifts downward.
Speech difficulty: Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence to check.
Time to call 9-1-1: If someone shows any of these symptoms even if the symptoms go away call 9-1-1 to help get the person to the hospital immediately. Also note the time when the first symptoms appear, as emergency responders will want to know.

(37,648 posts)How did that happen? WTH? I knew he'd had a stroke, but I thought it might be minor & he'd recover, because of his age.
His family must be devastated. This is so sad.
We never know when the Price of Darkness will come. (no, not Trump. The real Prince of Darkness.)

(4,604 posts)I blame (and thank) Luke Perry for my life long love of the bad boy type. Dylan McKay and his black 356 left quite an impression on me as a young teenager.
I really hate this part of reaching middle age, seeing cherished old friends and idols pass.
52 is too damn young to go.
Rest in Peace, and please know you were loved by many.

(30,247 posts)I've seen comments on various sites from people who knew him well and others who encountered him going through their daily lives, they all had nice stories about him. Such as Harry Anderson's daughter saying that Luke was her grandfather's next door neighbor and that he would regularly change his light bulbs when needed. Another person added that at a birthday party for the grandfather, it was Luke who helped to take out the garbage. One couple encountered Luke on a plane flight where two children wouldn't stop crying. All of a sudden a man came from first class, blew a balloon for the children and they stopped fuzzing. They later saw the man at the terminal and they recognized him as being Perry. They told him that it was great that he had a balloon on him. Luke replied that he carried a couple of balloons on flights just for such occurrences.
So Perry was not just a talented actor, but it appears that he was also a nice and down to earth person.
My condolences to his family and other loved ones. May Luke rest in peace.
