Marco Rubio Says Venezuelan Explosion Occurred At ‘German Dam,’ Who Is A Journalist And Not A Dam

The Republican senator’s comments on Venezuela’s power outages came back to bite him on Saturday.

By Sanjana Karanth

Sen. Marco Rubio’s comments this weekend on widespread power outages in Venezuela came back to bite him after the “German Dam” he said exploded turned out to be the name of a journalist covering the issue.

“Today another transformer explosion at the German Dam in Bolivar State caused another massive blackout,” the Florida Republican tweeted Saturday. “The result? Critically ill patients have died, the #Caracas metro remains out of service & few if any flights have arrived at or departed from Caracas in over 20 hours.”

Rubio is correct that there was an explosion that cut off electricity in some areas. A transformer exploded in the Sidor substation in Guayana, a city in the Venezuelan state of Bolívar. That information was reported by a journalist by the name of Germán Dam, who Rubio seemed to think was an actual, literal dam.

1. A U.S. Senator told about non-existent "German dam" in Venezuela

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio said that the cause of the outages in Venezuela was the explosion of a transformer on a non-existent “German dam” (German Dam). Later, the Congressman was informed that Herman Dam is the name of the journalist who reported about the accident.

Reuters

“Today, another explosion of the transformer at the German dam (German Dam) in Bolivar state have provoked a massive power outage,” wrote Rubio on Twitter, noting that the accident “sick patients died, and the metro of Caracas has stopped working”.

Senator @marcorubio, an important transformer exploded in Bolívar and that, in part, again collapsed the Venezuelan Electric System; however it was not in a dam, much less german.
My name is Germán Dam, I am one of the journalists who published the information.

Later, the journalist Herman Ladies noted that “the main transformer really exploded in the Bolivar”.

“However, it was not on the dam, especially not in German. My name is Herman Give, I’m one of the journalists who published this information,” — he wrote in response to Rubio.

2. SEN. MARCO RUBIO BLAMES POWER OUTAGE ON 'GERMAN DAM' EXPLOSION, DOESN'T REALIZE 'GERMN DAM' IS JOUR

SEN. MARCO RUBIO BLAMES POWER OUTAGE ON 'GERMAN DAM' EXPLOSION, DOESN'T REALIZE 'GERMÁN DAM' IS JOURNALIST'S NAME
BY CHRIS MORRAN ON 3/10/19 AT 3:28 PM

Florida Senator Marco Rubio has been a vocal critic of the regime of disputed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, particularly in recent days as widespread power outages wreak havoc throughout the South American nation. However, Rubio's zeal to highlight this ongoing problem led the lawmaker to make an embarrassing goof.

"Today another transformer explosion at the German Dam in Bolivar State caused another massive blackout," tweeted Rubio on Saturday. "The result? Critically ill patients have died, the #Caracas metro remains out of service & few if any flights have arrived at or departed from Caracas in over 20 hours."

. . .

While there was indeed an explosion that took out large chunks of the power grid, there does not appear to be any German Dam in the Venezuelan state of Bolívar.

Rather, it looks like Rubio goofed and somehow confused the name of South American journalist reporting on the outages with the actual source of the blackout — as noted by none other than journalist Germán Dam himself.

Maybe there’s a lesson to be learned about crumbling infrastructure. Is it time for another infrastructure week?

An even better lesson is to not elect stooges like rubio.

He never really wanted to be a Senator. He just wanted to be President. He's like all the Republican Senators, no spine, no morals and the motto " Party before Country"

BUT, because he is of Cuban ancestry, he will be elected to office in Florida. NO brains, no skills, no intelligence to make serious decisions for the welfare for the country....but, he is of Cuban decent. What an empty headed tool. Nice going, Florida.

That ol' broad brush just isn't applicable when it comes to the Cuban-Americans in S Florida. More than half are Dem voters... especially the younger gen.

Cheers

Seems to be true with most younger voters these days...a good sign. Hasn’t been the case for decades. They have been one of the most ardent supporters of the Republican agenda and anti-Cuba policies as a voting block.

Maybe trump is waking them up...at least the younger generation.

18. A recent Bendixen poll - 60% of Cuban-Americans don't support sanctions, travel restrictions.

The older gen was in support for sanctions, and would vote that way.

Because of this, the issue was taken up by both parties. Cuba sanctions have been bipartisan all along. The Cuban-American block have been near equal in R & D political contributions.

Now the new gen are Dems out of their interests here in the US.

Btw, I live in Miami-Dade.

It doesn't seem to have really bothered any of the Miami crowd, even though it's proof he lies his US American @$$ off if it might advance him.

Creepy ol' Marco.

Calling Rubio dumb as a post is a slander to posts. The only time he has a clue is when he plays the board game with his kids.
