California governor suspends death penalty

Source: The Hill

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Wednesday signed an executive order suspending the death penalty in the state, calling it "ineffective, irreversible, and immoral."

"The death penalty has been an abject failure," he said in a tweet after signing the order. "It discriminates based on the color of your skin or how much money you make. It’s ineffective, irreversible, and immoral. It goes against the very values that we stand for — which is why CA is putting a stop to this failed system."

In issuing the executive order, Newsom granted reprieve to the 737 individuals currently on death row in California.

....is barbaric and should be banned across the country.

It's unconscionable that we punish people who kill by doing exactly what they're being punished for.

From indifferent conservative to a social democrat member of the Democratic Party. It took 25 years but it started with changing my opinion on the Death Penalty.

In the 2016 governors race he said he would abide by the will of the voters on the ballot measure that voters ulimately approved that year and that is going to hurt him. Unfortunately he also broke the law when he ordered the death chamber dismantled, prop 66 says California will keep the ability to carry out executions.

I didn't see where it states that "California will keep the ability to carry out executions"!

Then move them to a Supermax where we never hear about them again.

They're alive on a living "death" row.
