Kirsten Gillibrand formally joins Democratic race for president

Source: Los Angeles Times

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York formally announced her candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination on Sunday, casting herself as the party’s strongest champion of reversing President Trump’s agenda.

Gillibrand, who launched an exploratory committee in January, has been campaigning for months.

But she used a formal video announcement online to draw fresh attention at a time when rivals Beto O’Rourke, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris have been dominating coverage of the crowded race, along with former Vice President Joe Biden, another likely contender.

Come out and tell the public SPECIFICALLY why you led the charge to oust Franken.
Who were your sources and what did they EXACTLY tell YOU that Franken had done or said.
Don’t be vague. Don’t use code words. Use the exact accusations.

If you are BRAVE ENOUGH to do this, then I will consider voting for you.

You've done more than enough harm already. You did what the enemy couldn't do. And I'm not the only person who thinks so.

“It was said not in front of Al to impress him; it was said privately in a corner. A group of us were standing there talking about it. He was one of our best weapons against this administration, his presence on these committees. [Gillibrand] did the damage that Republicans could not do themselves,” one of the attendees told POLITICO. “There were other people at this event who were saying the same thing. They said, ‘Absolutely, I will never do anything for her.’”

...

“I could stay on the phone all afternoon talking about this,” said a Manhattan-based member of the ‘Majority Trust’ of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, an elite group of top donors, who has donated to Gillibrand in the past. “Let me tell you how strongly I felt about it — I didn’t even vote for her in the recent election. I left it blank.

I cannot get past your role in destroying Al Franken. You didn't give him a chance. That wasn't very brave of you. Chance? I won't give you one--that's what I'd say to her.

If by some bizarre happening she were to be the nominee (not going to happen) I'd become an independent. That's how deep my rage is. We needed him in the Senate. We don't need little Miss Kris as a candidate.

but

I'd not give any money to her...and I would tell the DNC why. Of course I'd continue to work for local candidates I believe in.

I'm still that angry. I just don't know if I could vote for her. What she did was slimy. And I can't help but wonder if she wasn't trying to knock Franken out before he could run.

There was a lot of chatter about Al getting into the race. Just think about how he could handle the debates. Even if he didn't become the candidate, what he had to add to the conversation would've been far better than anything Miss Kris could offer.

Maybe my rage will cool. Then again...maybe not. I don't respect her.

That you will not vote for the Dem nominee.

I do NOT like either Beto or Sanders, but will absolutely for them if one of them wins the nom.

I said I'd register as an Independent. That would be to show my displeasure. Look carefully at my words.

I'm not the only one who feels this anger towards her and I don't know how else to express the anger. We had no way of helping Al Franken. I just feel that was such a loss.

I was so sad at the way Hillary got the nomination/crowning that I refused to send money to the DNC. But I voted for her and I gave money and worked hard for local Dems. It isn't that I didn't like Hillary, I just didn't like the way things went down.

I don't think KG has a chance at the nomination. We'll see.

We have some wonderful candidates, absolutely terrific folks. So....I shouldn't let my anger blind me. But I really have no respect for KG.

We look back on things with different eyes than what we saw them as, when they were happening. I'm glad President Clinton fought the hypocritical bastards back then and beat them. But if it were to have happened today, I doubt he would get that chance.

Hiding behind Roger Stone and Don Jr.'s set-up. Not brave enough to accept having an ethics review for Franken. It was all way too easy then, at the height of the #metoo movement to use it as a shield against any pushback, and a sword to take out one of her competitors who was stealing the spotlight.
