Federal Authorities Raided Trump Fundraiser's Office in Money Laundering Probe

Federal authorities raided the office of Republican fundraiser Elliott Broidy last summer, seeking records related to his dealings with foreign officials and Trump administration associates, according to a sealed search warrant obtained by ProPublica.
Agents were authorized to use the megadonor's hands and face to unlock any phones that required fingerprint or facial scans.
The Washington Post reported in August that the Justice Department was investigating Broidy. The sealed warrant offers new details of federal authorities' investigation of allegations that Broidy had attempted to cash in on his Trump White House connections in dealings with foreign officials. It also shows that the government took a more aggressive approach with the Trump ally than was previously known, entering his office and removing records -- just as it did with Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
Broidy served as a major Trump campaign fundraiser and was the national deputy finance chair of the Republican National Committee until he resigned in April 2018, when it was revealed he had agreed to secretly pay off a former Playboy model in exchange for her silence about their affair.

Broidy was a national deputy finance chair of the RNC -- just like Michael Cohen!
The search warrant shows Broidy is being investigated for conspiracy, money laundering, and violating laws against covert lobbying for foreign officials. It was "very broad" and covered evidence related to dozens of individuals, companies, and countries.
I wonder who he was conspiring with. Probably lots of people -- don't you think???
This is a LONG article and well worth your time!
And here's another article from December about this incredible sleaze ball. No way Mueller doesn't put him in a long, long indictment.

Here is the article on Broidy from the WA Post last August (mentioned in the Propublica article):

As part of the investigation, prosecutors are scrutinizing a plan that Broidy allegedly developed to try to persuade the Trump government to extradite a Chinese dissident back to his home country, a move sought by Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to two of the people.
They also are investigating claims that Broidy sought $75 million from a Malaysian business official if the Justice Department ended its investigation of a development fund run by the Malaysian government. The Malaysian probe has examined the role of the former prime minister in the embezzlement of billions of dollars from the fund.

(60,010 posts)who was linked to Malaysian bad guys.
When I read that, I got curious and looked up who was involved with Trump's other projects, and wouldn't ya know it...connections to bad guys.
That hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan, was financially linked to the country's version of the mob, Ivanka was in charge of that project, which now is closed, building not completed. I suspect her frequent trips to "oversee" the project involved money washing.

(70,501 posts).... Iranian Revolutionary Guard too. Trump's anti Iran stuff is just bull shit. Now he might start
a war with Iran as a diversion to Trump Russia or to help out the right wing in Israel or for Saudi
Arabia but he has no core beliefs.
BTW That hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan was rebuilt like 5 times in order to launder money.

(7,479 posts)Broidys account raises a lot of questions and I believe a more plausible explanation of all the facts at hand is that he agreed to pay Bechard seven figures as a favor to Donald Trump, who actually impregnated Bechard, and then needed to hush her up about their affair and her subsequent abortion.

Barrack and Elliot Broidy slipped major $$$ to Rick Gates in 2017:
Former Trump campaign official Rick Gates was paid tens of thousands of dollars in 2017 by a company headed by a leading Republican fundraiser and a firm headed by Donald Trump's inaugural committee chairman for help navigating the new administration, even as Gates was under criminal investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, a new report says.
The New York Times article raises questions of why the two men, Elliott Broidy and Thomas Barrack, each of whom had close ties to the Republican Party and, in Barrack's case, to the president himself, were paying a lobbyist like Gates for guidance on how to deal with the new administration.

(108,977 posts)and might have done a better job covering his tracks. And/or maybe he's been extremely cooperative, like Rick Gates.
But we'll see. This sure is taking a long time, though. Can't believe it's been almost 2 years since Mueller began. But when you're trying to save the whole world, I guess it would take some time. . . .

1. He hooked Manafort up with Trump:
I really need to get to Trump, Manafort said, according to Barrack. He told Barrack he wanted to work as Trumps convention manager, helping him navigate what they expected would be a contentious affair.
Barrack, who had long been friendly with Kushner, as well as Trumps daughter Ivanka, said he wrote them an email urging Trump to hire Manafort.
....This must have seemed like a great idea to Barrack, as he could make two good friends happy at the same time. What he almost definitely didnt then realize is that Manafort had an ulterior motive and was a desperate man.
2. He kept Rick Gates around after Manafort resigned:
Most of the media focus so far has been on the arrest of Paul Manafort and George Papadopoulos, with Rick Gatess arrest getting much less attention. Within the administration, however, things are a bit different.
Some White House advisers are unhappy with Thomas J. Barrack Jr., Trumps longtime friend and chair of his inauguration, whom they hold responsible for keeping Gates in the Trump orbit long after Manafort resigned as campaign chairman in August 2016, according to people familiar with the situation. Barrack has been Gatess patron of late, steering political work to him and, until Monday, employing him as director of the Washington office of his real estate investment company.

November 29, 2016:
The business partner, Rick Gates, was not mentioned in the Trump transition teams Nov. 15 public announcement naming the members of the inaugural committee. But behind the scenes Gates is serving as the chief deputy to Thomas Barrack, the private equity investor and close friend of Trump who is inaugural chairman, the sources said. One described him as in effect the shadow chair of the event, involved in everything from raising the $50 million to $75 million the Inaugural committee is seeking to the selection of entertainers.
Another source, a top Republican fundraiser, said he recently met with Gates about planning for inaugural events and it was clear he was playing a critical role in overseeing the operation. Gates is Barracks guy in helping to run the inaugural, said the source.

(60,010 posts)There is documented history showing Trump, Manafort and Felix Sater all worked together back in the 80's. Pictures, even.
Manafort and Sater had formed The Blackstone Group, Felix proudly had a business card referring to his office in Trump Tower.
Yet, it sounds as if Manafort needed an introduction to Trump by Barrak???
Maybe I read that wrongly.
but....then....it was Manafort who later "tricked" trump into selecting Pence for VP?

(13,524 posts)two in touch, as they were old pals, but the Barrack article says thats what happened. True or not, I do not know, but sure would love to. GREAT MYSTERY
It seems by all accounts that Manafort totally schemed to get Pence on board...another GREAT MYSTERY
And the greatest of all mysteries to me is, WHOSE TEAM IS SATER PLAYING FOR??!??
Maybe well find out next week when he (Sater) testifies in front of Congress (March 27), I swear I cannot wait
