Blunt disinvited to GOP event in backlash over vote to block Trump's emergency powers

U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt has been disinvited from a local GOP gathering in Christian County, Missouri, next month amid a backlash over his vote to block President Donald Trumps use of emergency powers to build a border wall.
The senior GOP senator from Missouri was one of 12 Republicans who joined Democrats in voting against Trumps national emergency declaration, a move that has sparked anger within the presidents base. As a Republican sharing the ballot with Trump in 2016, Blunt squeaked out a narrow 3-point win on Trumps coattails.
His vote on Thursday angered ardent Trump supporters across Missouri, who saw it as a betrayal.

(6,699 posts)What a snowflake, whimpy jackass. Good...maybe Blunt will realize what an ass he is dealing with. Remains to be seen. Does he have balls, or is this just a matter of checking the wrong box by mistake.

(5,477 posts)you quickly find that underlying reason is that they are terrified that if they allow tRump these unchecked 'emergency' powers, the next Democratic POTUS will also be able to use it for all sorts of stuff that *they* don't want. They're hedging their bets.

(1,040 posts)... I lived for about 7 years in this general area (actually neighboring Douglas County) when my parents retired. I can say that the majority of the citizens of this area are, without a doubt, some of the most backward, unenlightened, tunnel-visioned yokels you would ever want to meet. They always vote a straight Republican ticket, and Democratic candidates don't stand a chance. They excel at voting against their own interests 'just because,' and take pride in voting like "their Daddy" and "his Daddy before him" voted. If you disagree with them you are 'goin to hell,' and I have direct knowledge of 'furriners' being run out of the county because they were 'different.' Think of the worst Missouri hillbilly stereotype, short of outhouses, moonshine jugs and one-strapped overalls, and that pretty much covers it.
If you drive through this area, be sure you have a full tank of gas and good tires.
