Judge demands unredacted Mueller report in Roger Stone case

Federal prosecutors handling Roger Stone’s case were ordered on Thursday to turn over to a judge any unredacted sections of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report relating to the longtime GOP operative that could help prepare his defense for their upcoming trial.

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson in a one-paragraph order gave the U.S. attorneys handling the Stone case until Monday to provide her with portions of Mueller’s report that deal with Stone “and/or ‘the dissemination of hacked materials’” that were leaked during the 2016 presidential campaign to the detriment of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Jackson said she wants to review in private those blacked-out sections of the Mueller report as she weighs several motions from Stone’s lawyers requesting access as part of a larger bid to dismiss the case. Mueller charged Stone in January with lying to Congress and obstructing the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, with a trial in Washington scheduled to begin Nov. 5.

Stone’s lawyers last month asked for the entire Mueller report as they pressed Jackson to toss out the case before trial. His attorneys are also trying to get the case transferred from Jackson, who presided over the guilty plea and sentencing of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, as well as several other Mueller-related matters.

If his lawyers can show proof that crimes were committed by someone higher up the chain , they can make a better case for a plea deal, in exchange for throwing that bigger fish under the bus.

12. I think what they are angling for

is this: The State/prosecution/DOJ and "The Trump Administration" and "the defense" are all the same thing now. Trump has taken over the DOJ, who is the prosecutor of his buddy Stone. They are betting that if they refuse to provide this to the judge the judge will have no choice but to drop the charges. I posted above that someone would be jailed, but I take that back. She can't jail Barr or anyone - shed' have to dismiss the charges most likely. After thinking more about this, I bet this is exactly what they are up to and I think they win. The judge can't make them produce the report, and what we have here is that the prosecution and the defense are essentially on the same side with Barr being AG and ultimately in charge.

that is a huge fear for republicans so they'll fight this all the way. there is no mention of radio in the redacted version and the name where hannity would be in the glossary between graff and hawker is redacted. stone, corsi, credico are in this because of wikileaks, which was also associated with 'climategate' which came from a russian hack and sold by limbaugh in 2009. but stone and corsi in particular are long time talk radio operators - not social media. stone boasted of using it in 2000 to stop recounts in florida. they were involved in feeding the trolls using and coordinating with talk radio and mueller would have seen that. but he was limited to the campaign and nunberg said he "listened to 1000s of hours of talk radio" for trump in 2014, the same year a russian troll said they were getting lists of "topics to write about"

republicans all owe their elections to talk radio now and that may be a big reason trump paraded limbaugh, his friend, neighbor, and top weapon, at the golf course a couple of weeks ago.

there's a reason there's no mention of talk radio in the redacted mueller report and those redacted parts may open more cans of worms re russians using talk radio if a judge like jackson gets into it. i'll bet she won't get it easily.

Most Americans have a little interest in the sausage-making that goes into politics these days and can't keep up with even the basics of Congress. When you try explaining how deep the corruption goes, they'll look at you like you're a kook.

to 2008 when manafort was working for russians, his job being winning foreign elections for russian friendly pols, AND was campaign cochair for mccain campaign.

limbaugh broke with 'establishment' GOP and would not support mccain until the friday before the gop convention. mccain announced he had chosen palin minutes before the start of limbaugh's friday show and limbaugh used that to say he could support mccain. palin had been courted by russian oil and gas interests as AK gov. without limbaugh the convention would have been a disaster.

then climategate in 2009, started from a russian hack, sold by limbaugh. then limbaugh spent a least 6 weeks pushing debt default in 2011 - how many US billionaires would like that? then benghazi, etc.

the russians have been using talk radio for at least a decade. it's a classic propaganda form they would recognize. some of those paid callers may be working for the kremlin. the russians would be stupid not to. soc media is second rate for selling big lies.

As well they should. The prosecution has access to everything that is in the report. Indeed, one category of redacted materials consists of discussions of ongoing investigations/pending cases. It would be a lack of due process for Stone to be prosecuted without his being able to present information held by the prosecutors relevant to his defense.

The Starr Report was written for Congress. That's what the system he worked under required. Because it was written with public disclosure in mind, there wasn't anything to fight over (redaction-wise).

The mess that was the Starr Report and the process that followed soured opinions on the Independent Counsel law and it was allowed to expire. Clinton's DOJ created the system we have now to intentionally limit the report to a confidential package to the Attorney General alone who was expected to give Congress just a brief summary of any charging decisions and anywhere that he had overridden the SC's decisions. It wasn't anticipated that Congress would get the report at all... let alone the public.

What's interesting to note is that we're happy with neither system now. The difference of course is that there was a Republican House and Democratic President at the time... and now the situation is reversed.

21. You Think This Is Great? Think Again!

At first this looks like a teriffically positive and important event, but not so fast! It may instead be a get of jail card (or a PARDON by another name) for Herr Stone. Think about it, and in doing that thinking, remember that Robert Mueller is no longer in charge of this case. The justice department is now run by that great American Patriot, William Barr. Barr could simply comply with the order (enter Pollyanna!), or he could simply decide to deal with the order by rendering it null and void. Could he do that? Absolutely! All he has to do is order his prosecutors to Dismiss the case. The criminal indictment against Stone would be gone and with it Judge Berman Jackson’s order - AND there would be no release of any redacted material from the Mueller Report.
