Mitch McConnell Reassures Hannity: Don Jr. Subpoena Will 'Have a Happy Ending'
Source: Daily Beast
Days after calling for the end of the Groundhog Day spectacle of Trump investigations, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reassured a fraught Sean Hannity on Thursday night that Senate Intelligence Committee chair Richard Burrs (R-NC) subpoena of Donald Trump Jr. was no big deal.
... snip ...
Turning to McConnell, the pro-Trump Fox News host stated that the majority leader had already said that it was time to stop relitigating the 2016 election and move forward for the American public.
I agree with all of that, Hannity added. What is Senator Burr doing, did he not hear your message?
Apparently hoping to calm the conservative primetime star down, the Kentucky lawmaker said the good news is that Burr has already indicated that the committee will find no collusion, staying consistent with the findings of the Mueller report (which, by the way, did not make a determination on collusion as it has no legal definition.)
I think that this is going to have a happy ending, McConnell continued. I understand the presidents frustration here. But I think that this is just a blip, I think that the case is closed. I think that the controversy has been concluded.

They'll all in on it, trump included who's acting like he's surprised.

(10,252 posts)as if we didn't already know this. GOPers will praise Jr and pitch him softballs. He will lie to Dem questions or claim he can't remember.

(6,965 posts)When I first heard of this happening, I didn't get happy like my friends all did. I warned them to not get too excited, because my gut instinct told me that this was probably going to be good for that treasonous/lying/racist/asshole in that he's going to get the velvet glove treatment from thuglicans when questioned and won't remember who he is or much of ANYTHING when questioned by Dems.
That's IF he shows up at all, and if he does show up he'll more than likely take the 5th.

(6,110 posts)After reading your post, the fog in my head has suddenly cleared. Your hypothesis makes it clear to me now why the GOP controlled Senate committee wants to subpoena Don Jr.

(16,817 posts)Burr was working for Trump on the committee just like Nunes was in the House. All of these fuckers are working together and when Ole Turtle didn't voice any opposition to Jr's subpoena, that was clear games were being played. The only somewhat surprising thing to me is that Mitch has the guts to actually admit that on national TV. That tells me these assholes believe they'll get away with all of their crimes.

(3,952 posts)for saying such things rather than shutting up.
His commentary does speak to a 'fix' that the Senate Republiscums have ginned up to protect Trump and his family. He's not that far away from a 2020 Democratic Senate where these words can come back to haunt him. As we expect to replace Trumpyboy with our candidate, I do hope our new Democratic AG (maybe K. Harris?) would charge McTurtle with conspiracy and other crimes in this matter along with all the Republican heads of that committee.

(35,812 posts)-- to help the GOP's Burr to reach a Senate Intel committee ruling of "no collusion."
It's all designed to stand opposed to the House Intel's committee ruling, which will probably be that there was collusion.
Democrats on the committee, like Kamala, will be put down and dismissed. Fox will air only the Repubs' questions/answers.
Komrade Putin advises his puppet to have his Senate puppets run hearings such that everyone who's nervous about 45's dictatorial tendencies will see a show of democracy that confounds and falsely reassures them.
The Republican story about Democrats' "fake conspiracies" will remain intact.

(14,783 posts)Here's the play:
1) Burr issues subpoena, to appear to be aggressively pursuing the matter
2) Don Jr invokes 5th, which Burr knew would happen before he issued the subpoena.
3) Burr sighs loudly, shrugs his shoulders and says "I'm very frustrated and disappointed, but that's the law/Constitution, which I must follow"
McTurtle knows this. This is why he says there will be a happy ending. It's all theater, the script has already been written.

(2,138 posts)You know when and where to find the Orange McJunior. How about hand-delivering a few subpoenas to him before the Senate gets their hearing rolling?
If he shows up, it sets the precedent for testifying or pleading the 5th, depending. And it might just set him off into blurting out a few incriminating things out of anger
