A Kickapoo High School student posted a racist rant Thursday aimed at black student athletes.
In the 20-second Snapchat video, an unidentified white male used a string of profanity and racial slurs to warn black students to "stay the (expletive) out of our locker room." He accused them of stealing and adding "we should (expletive) lynch you."
The male, using a clear plastic bottle as a tobacco spittoon, added: "It's a privilege to be in our school. You (expletives) go around like you own the place."
The message was widely shared on social media platforms starting Thursday afternoon and was quickly condemned by Springfield Public Schools and the Springfield NAACP.

(22,114 posts)in the SW corner of MO. This kid, acting out like the irresponsible idiot he is, doesn't realize that his written words are out there for posterity. I hope that his words follows him as they should, and that colleges, future work places, etc. get an idea of what they're getting, should they either hire or allow him into their student body. In the digital age, words will follow you, especially the nasty ones.
What you write and do, does have ramifications now a days, being that in the digital world, words don't disappear.
I am impressed that the school has moved to address this issue rapidly, and I hope that they can address the underlying cause(s) of such hate and racism.

(38,420 posts)After a short search, I did find out it was MO. not ILL. But nowhere in the article is that clear. And stories on the internet do not make it clear. We have more Springfields but I didn't find them.

(888 posts)I read the referenced article, and it's apparent that someone is off message:
In a series of posts, the unidentified creator of the page alleged "the tables have turned recently and now black people are being racist toward whites and black people are barely getting discriminated against."
This person hasn't gotten the memo that the most discriminated creature on planet earth is the American Heterosexual Christian White Male and that minorities not only aren't being discriminated against *at all*, they're oppressing the hell out of AHCWMs! Why, as one myself, I can barely exist!
Shouldn't be needed, but just to be absolutely clear:
So glad we're living in post-racial America

(19,852 posts)The only significant action would be to remove him from the school and have him charged with a hate crime.

(32,626 posts)this school has had some experience with bullying, etc., Whatever they're doing, it isn't working. What an effed up situation. And why no police?
Robinson encouraged the Springfield Police Department to investigate and take action. She called the viral video message "a danger to our students, to our community, to our schools."
She said the post ought to be investigated as a possible hate crime.
"What took place can be categorized as a terroristic threat and so we want that to be taken seriously," she said.
Springfield Police spokeswoman Jasmine Bailey said the department is not investigating the incident. "That is being investigated by Springfield school police."

(19,852 posts)a couple of diversity training sessions back in the 90s when I worked for Apple. There were two white women in the session who confessed that hate was drilled into them by their fathers at the dinner table. They were told that the N-word are this and that and Asians are such and such. Essentially brainwashed. It was so eye opening.
The cool thing was that these two women voluntarily took the training sessions cuz they wanted to get to know minorities and get rid of the "programming" their fathers has done.
