Gas product spills in Houston Ship Channel after collision involving 755-foot oil tanker and barges

Source: CNN

The barges were loaded with the gasoline blend stock Reformate, which is leaking into the water, officials said.

(CNN) A tug pushing two barges collided with a 755-foot oil tanker in the Houston Ship Channel, capsizing one barge and damaging the other one, the US Coast Guard said in a statement.

The barges were loaded with the gasoline blend stock Reformate, which is leaking into the water after the incident Friday near Bayport, Texas, officials said.

"An estimated 25,000 barrels of gasoline blend stock were loaded on each barge. An unknown amount of product has been released from the damaged barge," the statement said.

"Air monitoring is being conducted along the shoreline ... the first priority of the unified command is public safety," it said. " If any readings above actionable levels are detected, advisories will be provided to local emergency operations centers.

Whether it's chemical fires, oil leaking barges, it's an ongoing parade of enormous amounts of toxins being emitted into the environment. Thank you, GOP, for your rollback of environmental protections and lack of infrastructure improvements.

Google the Texas City Disaster...where they had a shipload of ammonium nitrate fertilizer bound for France that was already getting hot so, instead of hauling it thirty miles out of town and allowing it to deflagrate in the desert, they put it in the ship and killed a lot of people when the AN exploded.

According to ABC13 Houston:
[link:https://abc13.com/barge-crash-cleanup-on-hold-in-ship-channel-amid-weather/5295555/]

The impact of the collision was so severe, it almost sliced the barge in half. According to the Coast Guard, the tanker, Genesis River, crashed into a tug pushing two barges. One capsized. The other was left with a huge gash in it.

Per YouTube: Newly Built LPG Tanker “GENESIS RIVER” from Houston (dated 01/26/2019):
The newly built LPG tanker "GENESIS RIVER" entered the Irago Strait from the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Kamishima Island and headed for Yokkaichi Port, where she passed through the Panama Canal from Houston in the United States and across the Pacific Ocean.
