U.S.'s Evidence of Iran Threat Readied for Release by Pentagon
Source: Bloomberg
(Bloomberg) -- The Pentagon is working with its Defense Intelligence Agency to declassify and release images -- including two traditional sailing vessels carrying land-attack missiles -- to back up the Trump administrations claims of a growing threat from Iran, according to four defense officials.
The evidence may be released within a day, according to one of the officials, because the White House recognizes it needs to disclose more documentation to skeptical allies, U.S. lawmakers and the public.
These include images of the two dhows, slow-moving vessels that U.S. analysts believe were carrying cruise missiles that are designed to attack land targets and would be fired directly from the boats rather than shipped to other locations, according to one of the defense officials.
The vessels could be easily disguised among the many dhows that transit the Persian Gulf in routine commerce -- unlike the easily spotted speedboats that Irans Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has long used to intimidate crews of oil vessels from other nations and occasionally to harass American ships in the Persian Gulf.

This makes about as much as the accusation that Iraq had drone technology because one of Saddam Hussein's sons had a radio controlled model airplane.

I didn't believe Bush-Cheney and I'm not going to believe Trump-Bolton.

(8,787 posts)Cheney was making personal visits every day to the Pentagon and Intelligence to provide him with proof that backed his statement that Iraq had been building tons of WMD's. He demanded that they find some pictures to back his claims. And they did. An agricultural insecticide spreader, some useless aluminum tubes and then he marched Colin Powell out there to lie to us confirming what Cheney was telling all of us. Sounds like another "BLACK FLAG" operation to me...........

(6,960 posts)It is the United States and the Trump administration that have threatened Iran.
Repeatedly and with increasing severity.
Iran is responding to the threats.
Don't let the corporate news media reframe what is going on between Trump and Iran.
This is all on Trump.

(9,287 posts)In 2002, the Pentagon spent $250 million on a classified U.S. war game called Millennium Challenge. The game envisioned the U.S. Navy facing a coordinated Iranian assault in the Persian Gulf using swarming boats and missiles. The results were so devastating the exercise was suspended and the parameters controversially changed to ensure a U.S. victory: The Iranians sank a total of 16 American ships ― including an aircraft carrier.
Instead, Iran is estimated to have the largest inventory of ballistic missiles in the Middle East. Irans easily camouflaged missiles are well positioned to target both ports and airfields around the region, likely frustrating any American military build-up in preparation for an assault. Ballistic missiles also enable Tehran to uphold its defense motto that the region is either safe for all or for no one.
But Irans defense strategy is not limited to slaughter in a military sense. By temporarily closing the Strait of Hormuz ― a strategic maritime choke point through which roughly 30 percent of the worlds oil supply passes ― Tehran could inflict massive damage to the world economy, causing oil prices to skyrocket and likely compelling other great powers to intervene to put an end to the war. Indeed, even a brief closure of the strait would create enough ambiguity and uncertainty to drive up shipping insurance and other costs to astronomical heights, a senior European diplomat told the Christian Science Monitor in 2012.

(4,341 posts)Iran is known to be more than prepared for a USA, or Israel attack. Iraq, so far, has been the worst military decision the USA ever made, that decision would pail in comparison. I believe the simulations were right, but when you have people in charge who do not have a concept of consequences then anything can happen.
I don't understand why the military would support any of this, they are supposed to be true patriots, and no real patriot will allow a war with Iran.
What is the love to the buffoon? How can anyone like such a disgusting creature? I understand the corrupt GOP politicians who have been compromised trying to save their skins, but the military? I cannot believe they will go with this.
