Ex-Oregon football star stops armed student at Oregon school

Source: Associated Press

By GILLIAN FLACCUS 49 minutes ago

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A former college football standout at the University of Oregon was credited Friday with tackling an armed student at a Portland, Oregon, high school before anyone was injured.

Keanon Lowe, a football and track coach and a security guard at Parkrose High School, told reporters as he was leaving a police interview late Friday that he was tired but relieved at the outcome, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported.

There are no other suspects. Police declined to release the student’s name and said they were still trying to determine if he fired any shots. Police spokesman Sgt. Brad Yakots declined to confirm Lowe’s reported involvement.

“I’m just happy everyone was OK,” Lowe said as he walked out of the school about four hours after the incident, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive. “I’m happy I was able to be there for the kids and for the community.”

teacher......................the math and science teacher and student survived, till this day, every time I see one of these stories it brings back that horror, and why I am anti-gun, it never leaves, never, the pain, the remembering............................today's student's are taught to hide and live in fear and are trained to live and hide in fear when in school, and parents in the back of there minds wonder is today that day it happens......................after the shooting my school, we went to the auditorium, and from what I can remember, we were told that everything would be alright, and it was, until 1968 when two men were gunned down, one standing in a hotel dining room and another on hotel walkway, it has been getting worse ever since..................... enough is enough.........................

Thank you for the article...........................

11. I hope you will never stop telling people what you witnessed. People are sleepwalking about guns.

They still don't seem to grasp it happens to real people, especially when monsters like right-wingers circulate lies about other US Americans lying about their own children being murdered at school, as they were in a massacre not so long ago.

Hoping knowing someone in person who's been through it will bring the reality into focus. They all need to wake up immediately.

So sorry the shooting happened and that you were there. The shock would have been horrendous, an injury which happened to you, too, changing your life forever.

Thank you.

I'll have to remember this

And if we had better regulation of guns, this kind of heroic action would never have to be attempted
