DOJ looks to avoid 'enforcement action' against Barr with new counteroffer on Mueller docs

Source: ABC News

The Department of Justice has made a counteroffer to Democrats on subpoenaed documents related to special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into 2016 Russian election meddling -- a move aimed at dialing back tensions between the administration and lawmakers over the matter.

The counteroffer includes a surprising concession to make available some underlying evidence that helped inform Mueller's report. DOJ officials had initially balked at just such an overture as recently as last week, which led House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff to set a deadline of this Wednesday to respond and threatened Attorney General William Barr "unspecified enforcement action."

That action could include a resolution of contempt or hefty fines.

Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd in DOJ's latest offer said all members of the House Intel Committee would be able to view a less-redacted version of "Volume 1" of the Mueller report that dealt primarily with outlining Russia's efforts to meddle in the election.

Adam! Get them on the ropes.

I read that Barr does not want a contempt citation. He is bluffing as hard as he can.

What is that old chestnut? I fought the Law and the Law won! Barr is not above the law.

I think I put those quotes wrong. You know what I mean.

that's why they pay them the big bucks. Except Trump isn't paying. It's the Grand Financial Titans who own us all that's paying for all
this. They miss owning slaves outright. That's the one thing they are denied lately.

Will rule against them,so why would they now accept anything less? They're desperate to try to get it stopped for trump, but should end up in jail.

but Trump's main goal isn't to win the cases, it's to delay them until after the election.

for a hearing Thursday? If he's a no show nail him.

Every day I learn about how many Trump cronies he put throughout government. It's going to take an exterminator when we win in 2020. Also, it's easy to see how he governs, whoever gives him the most money. He isn't pro-Israel because he likes Israel, Sheldon Adelson gave him 20 million dollars.

24 hrs after contempt of congress citation, an inquiry into Impeaching Barr should have been set. As long as democrats refuse to take hard action, we will have all forms of obstruction by trump and his admin.

enough is enough

Nothing more than delay. They know the law is not on their side so they will play this game as long as they are allowed to. When the court sides against Barr/Trump, the Contempt citation becomes court enforceable and people can be arrested. So they make a ridiculous offer to prevent "enforcement action" with no intent on following through with what they say they will provide to delay a court ruling. Its very transparent.

is a big nothing, but it's pretty obvious no one with anything to lose wants that citation pinned on them. I think they know they have no legal leg to stand on and if Dems go to court and win, well, violating a court order will land you in jail and even leasd to disbarment.
