Warren, Ocasio-Cortez press Mnuchin on role in Sears bankruptcy
BY SYLVAN LANE - 05/23/19 12:51 PM EDT
Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) on Thursday pressed Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin allegations that he and other Sears board members stole billions of dollars from the collapsing retailer.
In a Thursday letter to Mnuchin, Warren and Ocasio-Cortez asked the Treasury secretary to explain his role in a series of financial maneuvers that stripped Sears of its most profitable assets and loaded the now-bankrupt company with debt.
"We are deeply concerned by the financial engineering and potentially illegal activity that took place at Sears Holding Corporation while you served on the company's board, the lawmakers wrote in a five-page letter.
Warren, a Democratic presidential candidate, and Ocasio-Cortez also released a video explaining the letter and their concerns with Mnuchin's involvement in the company's financial collapse.

Mnuchin and the rest of them are crooks and grifters or the first order. I want them prosecuted, but not sent to live in a nice federal pen at taxpayer expense. I want them to pay the cost of their incarceration plus interest, then I want them to forfeit their entire wealth except for a monthly distribution of what a minimum wage worker gets for a 30 hr week. They wouldn't get any access to medicaid or other safety net services either since they always oppose these.

(27,813 posts)... it is always wise to assume the worst - despite the fact that the "worst" you assumed them guilty of is probably just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
There was a time when the alleged malfeasance of a Republican could be dismissed as being too outrageous, too unspeakable, too despicable to be true.
We are now living in a time when - as they have amply demonstrated - there is no conduct too low for a Republican to have engaged in.
Pedophilia? Child sex-trafficking? Perjury? Collusion with adversarial foreign nations? Obstruction of justice? Acceptance of bribes? Selling out your own country in exchange for a bank account in a tax-free nation? Having been caught in a cheap motel room with a dead girl AND a live boy?
In view of our current political reality, NONE of the above allegations are off the table. No matter how low you think a Republican is capable of sinking, the correct answer is uh, nice try, but seriously, it's actually lower than that.
