North Korea: Nuclear talks with US won't resume without new approach

North Korea says that talks with the Trump administration on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula will not resume unless the U.S. changes its tact and moves away from demands for unilateral disarmament from the North.

The Associated Press reported Friday that Kim Jong Un's government released a statement through state-run Korean Central News Agency that accused U.S. negotiators of deliberately blowing up talks between the two countries with a set of unreasonable demands.

“We hereby make it clear once again that the United States would not be able to move us even an inch with the device it is now weighing in its mind, and the further its mistrust and hostile acts toward the DPRK grow, the fiercer our reaction will be,” read the statement from North Korea's foreign ministry.

“Unless the United States puts aside the current method of calculation and comes forward with a new method of calculation, the DPRK-U.S. dialogue will never be resumed and by extension, the prospect for resolving the nuclear issue will be much gloomy,” it reportedly continued.

It was just an effort by Lil Kim to play the ignorant orange one and get sanctions lifted without doing any single thing of consequence on his end, no stopping of the nuclear development, no stopping of uranium enrichment, no stopping of anything he sets his pointy lil head to do. It was all take take take and he thought Cheetolini was just stupid enough to keep giving as long as he kept stroking the ego. Now he knows the ploy failed, America is not just drummpf and he couldn't get the orange one to sign off on sanctions removal without them taking serous steps at denuclearization, which he will absolutely never do.

Drumpf is a treacherous idiot, Kim was right on that, but the people he's hired are war mongers and unless he's offerred sufficient personal bribes to drumpf, he doesn't care enough to go against them on this.

I'm surprised a writer for The Hill would make an error like that. Changing one's tack would be changing their course. It's a sailing term. Since a sailboat can't be steered directly into the wind, the helmsman must tack back and forth in directions slightly off the wind in order to make forward progress.

The Trump administration seems averse to making any forward progress, ergo they don't change their tack. They're luffing their sails in the wind (flapping in the breeze).

8. The US "all or nothing approach" is a regime change strategy

This fundamental difference which is well understood by long term observers of the negotiations between the US "one bundle" or Libyan approach, and a simultaneously reciprocal step by step, phased trust building approach, favored by North Korea, has been the obstacle to negotiations all along. A retreat was required from the US all or nothing approach after Singapore which Stephen Biegun played out in working level talks, as evidenced by his presentation at Stanford before the Hanoi summit could even occur. Once, the North Koreans committed to meet at Hanoi, the US went back to the old playbook of all or nothing, give up everything in return for vague promises of future benefits and no sanctions relief of any kind in the interim. No one who knows anything about North Korea could have seriously thought this would work.

It was a duplicitous approach for a US administration which cannot stand up to domestic criticism of its North Korean initiatives by the intelligence establishment, the neo-cons, the press, the opposition, and the military industrial complex of think tanks, and Congressional defense industry flunkies.
