Senators Say the Trump Administration Will Use an 'Emergency Declaration' to Sell Arms to Saudi Arabia
BY MATTHEW LEE AND SUSANNAH GEORGE / AP 3:00 PM EDT

(WASHINGTON) — The Trump administration notified Congress on Friday that it is invoking a rarely used provision in federal law to bypass congressional review of arms sales to Saudi Arabia, two Democratic senators said.

The administration is issuing an emergency declaration that will allow it to sell arms to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and others despite congressional objections, according to Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn. Menendez said the administration did not cite a specific legal or practical reason for using the provision in the Arms Export Control Act, other than to cite threats from Iran.

“I am disappointed, but not surprised, that the Trump administration has failed once again to prioritize our long term national security interests or stand up for human rights, and instead is granting favors to authoritarian countries like Saudi Arabia,” Menendez said in a statement.

“President Trump is only using this loophole because he knows Congress would disapprove of this sale,” Murphy said in a statement. “There is no new ’emergency’ reason to sell bombs to the Saudis.”

worded letter?

Actually I believe that one of the courts was scheduled this week to hear arguments on Trump's use of an Emergency Declaration. There's just too many court cases to keep track of.

I could see where this administration would want to put more lethal armaments in the hands of that very country. Good choice!

Angry letters from Dems don't seem any more effective than our Twitter rage.
But we're not part of an equal branch of the government, who was given Constitutional powers to prevent and fight wanna-be Kings!

The Grand Bargin...
And in return, Saudi Arabia sends millions to Trump! Trump should NOT be allowed to do this! I thought the POTUS had to go through Congress to get things approved! Why don't they stop him?
Never forget: Remember Jamal Khashoggi,,,,Hey, remember those guys who attacked us with airplanes on 9/11? Let's sell them weapons!!

Trump is dismantling our government from the inside. He is giving aid to our enemies while trying to destroy our constitutional liberties. His AG is about to put us in international danger by outing our intel community. Politics aside, this crazy train has got to stop.

If Democrats are afraid to impeach him and would rather just try their luck in the 2020 election, they should just tell us that so they can cut the act. Just admit it so we can all stop expecting them to hold him accountable.

Is this going to pay his mounting legal fees?

What's the record for a prez making "emergency declarations"? He's trying to beat it.

It appears that there is a loophole for every law that’s written.

it. That would require effort and might be offensive. Instead, I’ll go on Anderson Cooper and circlejerk with another Liberal guest over how bad Trump is while the Republic goes up in flames. Oh well - at least I tried!”

*Sigh...

14. Which "Democratic Senator/House rep" are you referring to doing a "circlejerk" w/ Anderson Cooper?

If your accusations are based in fact, then you won't have any problem with a link to one of the said 'circlejerks.'

If they're indeed ficticious, which it appears they are, then you might want to simply admit that you are very angry at the world right now, and want to scapegoat Democratic leaders here because this is a Democratic discussion board.

And you might also want to apologize and take a break.
