Rep. Hunter on war crimes suspect Gallagher: I'm guilty of same bad thing'
Source: East County Magazine/Times of San Diego
Rep. Duncan D. Hunter told a Ramona audience Saturday that hes guilty of the same behavior that led to Navy SEAL Chief Eddie Gallagher being charged with war crimes posing with a dead combatant.
Eddie did one bad thing that Im guilty of too taking a picture of the body and saying something stupid, Hunter said at a border-issues forum with his father, former Rep. Duncan L. Hunter.
The younger Hunter, a Marine veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, said hes taken pictures just like that when I was overseas although he didnt text or post images to social media. But a lot of my peers
have done the exact same thing.
....Hunter's opponent, Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar, issued this statement: "I dont understand why Congressman Hunter decided to use this weekend to talk about taking pictures with a combatant he killed. Tomorrow is Memorial Day, lets respect our fallen service members without politicizing a weekend meant to honor them. Freedom does not come cheaply, it imposes a heavy burden. To the servicemen and women who paid the ultimate price to protect our lives and values, thank you. Terrorists get what they deserve, a one-way ticket to hell. But we have to be better than them in the way we conduct ourselves during war. We cant forget what separates America from them our moral code. Let us honor the sacrifice of our fallen men and women by exemplifying their valor, values, and virtue.

Hunter, awaiting trial on federal corruption charges this fall, has abased himself even further in admitting -- on Memorial Day weekend, a time to honor fallen soldiers -- that he disrespected fallen enemy soldiers by posing in photos with their bodies.
While merely taking photos of dead bodies is not a war crime, it can be if accompanied by degrading actions.
How low can you go, taking selfies with corpses and defending a man accused of heinous war crimes?
Ammar is clearly the more honorable man, and even Republicans in our area are starting to understand that, based on comments I've seen lately.
That said, Hunter will probably be in prison before his next reelection campaign.

(33,643 posts)Is that what you're admitting to?
Because PREMEDITATED MURDER of a POW is what Gallagher is in BIG TROUBLE over, NOT posting for a photograph with a body.
But then I suppose you knew that, showing the world that your statements are just more disinformation manufactured for the slavering masses of knuckle-dragging right-wing cultists that follow Herr Trump and believe whatever propaganda he spews out on Twitter ...
You're all scum Duncan: You, Gallagher, your party, and your POTUS.
Nothing but lying, dirtbag FILTH. The lot of you.

(9,426 posts)"There are good people on both sides" The service members in Iraq and Afghanistan likely did not want to be at war anymore than most US service members do. Their "leaders" are responsible for those decisions. The service members from other countries have families that love them, too, and do not want fighting. On top of that, their countries are being destroyed. Wars solve nothing. Why can't reasonable, responsible people talk out their differences? Sanely and intelligently? While tRump and Bolton along with other (R)'s are running the show, this will not happen. The world does not need more death and destruction. Time to stop playing "macho man" with the lives of our young men and women. Do some GOOD instead of destroying others.

(3,491 posts)Do moral failings remove your right and privilege of serving in the US military or does the uniform exonerate you from any moral failing you may commit while serving?

(6,908 posts)It's soldiers like this that make people hate America.
He's a disgrace to the military, and any other soldier who did this, too.
WTF is wrong with the leadership that can't weed out these war criminals in a uniform?
They don't protect us with their phony patriotism, they make America weak. And it makes sense why to takes 17 years to win over the people of Afghanistan. To them, America is just another killer army like the Taliban.
And I cringe when Americans give assholes like this hero's honor when they return home thanks to Fox News.
