A private group says it's started building its own border wall using millions donated in GoFundMe

Source: CNN

Sunland Park, New Mexico (CNN)A group that raised millions of dollars in a GoFundMe campaign says it has broken ground on a project to build its own stretch of border wall on private property.

We Build the Wall, a group founded by a triple amputee Air Force veteran, said in a series of social media posts on Monday that it had started construction on private property in New Mexico. The announcement comes months after the group began its GoFundMe campaign to raise private donations for a border wall, and days after a federal judge blocked President Donald Trump from tapping into billions in Defense Department funds for his administration's wall construction efforts.

"Buckle up, we're just getting started!" the group wrote in a Facebook post, sharing what it said were images of construction over the weekend.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who chairs We Build the Wall's advisory board, told CNN on Monday that the group has built a mile of border wall in the El Paso, Texas, area -- something he says connects two 21-mile sections of existing fencing.

Razzle Dazzle 'em
Give 'em an act with lots of flash in it
And the reaction will be passionate
Give 'em the old hocus pocus
Bead and feather 'em
How can they see with sequins in their eyes?
What if your hinges all are rusting?
What if, in fact, you're just disgusting?
Razzle dazzle 'em
And they'll never catch wise!

Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle
Razzle dazzle 'em
Give 'em a show that's so splendiferous
Row after row will crow vociferous
Give 'em the old flim flam flummox
Fool and fracture 'em
How can they hear the truth above the roar?
Throw 'em a fake and a finagle
They'll never know you're just a bagel,
Razzle dazzle 'em
And they'll beg you for more!

It's called a fence.

Now the neighbor's cat can't smuggle drugs into my back yard. He can, however, still come to the front porch for treats.

The drug smuggling part, I mean. I can easily believe your neighbor's cat goes in your yard, that's what cats do, but the drug smuggling bit, well, I need to see the proof (kitty-cat calves the size of those small tomatoes)

I don't like the environmental impact of walls. Slats would be better. Still endangering wildlife, but better than a solid wall.

Wildlife need to travel back and forth for food and water and shelter.

The wildlife situation was not mentioned.
We are moving to Mexico in bigger numbers than they are coming here these days. Simpler to just not give jobs to undocumented workers and fine the owner big time.
I would rather look at the river than a wall.

It's about time they put their money to work. I much rather see every GOP invest all their cash into this wall than to fund another Thumped-supporting GOP candidate. I hope every one of those Repulsimen who voted for this will spent every dollar they have to help build this, just leave our taxes out of it; because in the end, they can sit back, look at their amazing wall and realize just how foolish they are. I'll be a stark reminder of how gullible a fool and his money are soon parted.

GoFundMe Border Wall Ordered to Stop Building Because They Didn’t Have the Right Paperwork

The $20 million crowdfunded project to do what Trump hasn’t done hit, well, a wall.

SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico—We Build the Wall, a privately funded effort to build a barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border, was told to stop building on Tuesday.

The cease-and-desist order represents a new obstacle for the group and its founder, triple-amputee veteran Brian Kolfage. Kolfage’s crowdfunding effort became a cause célèbre on the right last December, when he rapidly raised $20 million on GoFundMe for the wall. So far they have built less than a half-mile of fence on the border.

Sunland Park Mayor Javier Perea said at a press conference the city issued a cease-and-desist order, saying it is in violation of city ordinances. George Cudahy, whose company owns the land where the wall is being built, submitted an application for a building permit last week. Sunland Park officials declared the application incomplete, Perea said, because it lacked a site plan development and included contradictory information around the construction.
