Outrage erupts as Trump attacks the 'scientific process itself'

Source: raw story

May 28, 2019

............................As the New York Times reported late Monday, “the White House-appointed director of the United States Geological Survey, James Reilly, a former astronaut and petroleum geologist, has ordered that scientific assessments produced by that office use only computer-generated climate models that project the impact of climate change through 2040, rather than through the end of the century, as had been done previously.”

“As a result,” according to the Times, “parts of the federal government will no longer fulfill what scientists say is one of the most urgent jobs of climate science studies: reporting on the future effects of a rapidly warming planet and presenting a picture of what the earth could look like by the end of the century if the global economy continues to emit heat-trapping carbon dioxide pollution from burning fossil fuels.”

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)—the United Nations’ leading climate body—warned in a landmark report last October that if carbon emissions are not dramatically and rapidly reduced, catastrophic effects of the climate crisis could be felt across the world as early as 2040.

But, as the Times reported, scientists say that Trump administration’s attempt to cut off government climate projections at that year “would give a misleading picture because the biggest effects of current emissions will be felt after 2040.”....................................

I have no doubt that many of the #Trump #MAGA are cheering him on once again with this dangerous scientific attack.

Willful ignorance is horrifying.

Willful ignorance partnered with arrogance could be fatal.

It makes no sense to threatened by science. This country used to respect education and science.

These people aren't wilfully ignorant. They choose to be intentionally ignorant because they don't want to admit that the other side might actually be right about something. That's when they start making up their own realities to justify their miserable existence. And that is what we are dealing with now.

The ostrich plan won't make it go away. Ignoring the problem doesn't change what's happening. Pretending that there's no worries does not instill public confidence.

They're acting like children instead of adults who must deal with a critical problem that is going to affect life as we know it.

PUtin wants America to crumble so he can pick up the pieces as the most powerful man representing the most powerful nation in the world and drumpf is the person he wants tot accomplish this. drumpf knows and doesn't give a shit because he's been promised control of the nation to use for his own personal benefit even as the nation itself is destroyed.

China outmatches them in nearly every way, except nuclear weapons stockpiles. If the USA vanished tomorrow as if it had never been, it wouldn't be Russia calling the shots in the new world order. It would be China. The Chinese might let him have Eastern Europe and the former Warsaw Pact states, but that'd be about it.

You know you may have hit the ail on the head for his long term objectives. What do nationalist Russians always say - they want the USSR back. PUtin and his mafia would probably be pleased as punch to have back their union, controlled by them for their personal profit, of course. Maybe it's just #2 he wants instead of somewhere in the back of the bus.

So far as the collective "conservative" Neo-facist elite are concerned, the grateful universe will end as soon as they are dead and buried.
Their particularly toxic blemd of end-times evangelicalism and juvenile/sociopathic winner-takes-all politicking pretty much ensures they don't care about their children or grandchildren, they just care about having all the toys and all the say over who gets what.

And he's ordering the government to not look at the future.

I can only shake my head in disgust and despair.

predicting the weather more than a couple of days in advance. No doubt climate forecasting models have gotten increasingly better and more sophisticated, but I have my doubts about their ability to predict the next 80 years. TBH, I doubt any model of anything has the ability to accurately predict the next 80 years.
