Schiff: 'There's been an epidemic of cowardice in the GOP'

Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, attacked Republicans’ moral character on Thursday while continuing to temper Democrats’ calls for impeaching President Donald Trump until such proceedings are clearly “the right thing for the country.”

The California Democrat told Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer in a question-and-answer session that GOP lawmakers had come up to him privately to “express their deep concerns and worries” about the Trump administration and offer bits of encouragement as Schiff’s committee forges ahead with its investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“But I’m, frankly, exhausted by the private misgivings,” Schiff said. “People need to speak out.”

The lawmaker said he respected Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, who became the first Republican lawmaker to accuse Trump of committing impeachable offenses with a series of tweets earlier this month.

Schiff also reminisced about the late Sen. John McCain’s frequent clashes with the president and lauded the Arizona Republican’s stands as acts of courage.

“I think what we knew, implicitly, was that courage is contagious,” he said. “But what we didn’t realize is that cowardice is also contagious. I think there’s been an epidemic of cowardice in the GOP. This president doesn’t stand for anything that the Republican Party said it stood for.”..............................

McConnell even more than tRump. He rules them with an iron fist. They had better wake up - fast. Many will lose their positions in the next election if they do not find their spines. Surely they know this? Every day it looks even more obvious than the day before that tRump is a crook and unfit for office. The jellyfish in the gop are terrified of something. What keeps them under control - Russian money? McConnell is so sure of himself, I wonder if the "fix" is already in for the next election. He is doing business with a Russian oligarch, to get a foothold in Kentucky. It is a start for the Russians to take over.

For a long time. He doesn't know how to lose.

His wifey poo works for 45.

His in-laws were by design.

The people of Kentucky keep sending him back.

They are guilty.

will bring him down. He is so corrupt. Do any American companies own large factories in Russia? Why should a Russian oligarch be allowed to start a business in Kentucky, that surely a US businessman could run? McConnell lowered the bar for this Russian by changing the rules. Mitch will be the richest man in the cemetery. God bless him. (kidding) He has eyes like a dead fish, no life in them whatsoever. They say "The eyes are the mirror of the soul" McConnell obviously has no soul. Along with no scruples, no shame, no honor. No wonder he fits in so well with tRump's brand.

The idiots that still support Red Don are a minority overall, but a critical mass in GOP primaries.

For being a party that dislikes G'ment, they sure like their G'ment jobs.

Democrats.

There are too many clear justifications that I hope Democrats are listening to because they all are telling them that impeachment process must begin now, not later after investigations, now.

As many have said, the impeachment process will allow that investigations to happen, and the force that the impeachment process gives the Democrats will serve them well to obtain documents, testimonies, and other things they will need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that we have traitors in the White House, the Senate and Congress.

stand firm for what they believe in. These gop reps are like sheep. What they do not realize yet, is that McConnell and tRump are leading them to slaughter! They will lose their positions if they continue ignoring the blatant TRUTH about this administration and McConnell. Sniveling behind the scenes is not the way to represent the country. They seem to have forgotten WHY people elected them. It will soon be too late for them to do the right thing. Voters are finally starting to "see the light"

The Republicans need to be constantly called out as being the spineless cowards that they are. Less of a focus on Donald Trumps tweets and more of a focus on GOP cowardice. Every time Trump does something stupid (every day in other words), Republicans must be forced to defend it. They have been given a pass so far because there is too much focus on Trump himself instead of on the Republicans.

Bravo to Congressman Schiff.

his total disregard of House authority. Contemp charge should have been filed and voted on. Followed immediately with impeachment inquiry into Barr.

We keep reinforcing the opinion that democrats lack the conviction of head to head political combat.
