USA soccer vs. England live updates: U.S. holds on, 2-1, to reach World Cup final

Source: Washington Post

Final: USA 2, England 1

The defending champions were without co-captain Megan Rapinoe, one of the tournament’s leading scorers. But her replacement, Christen Press, scored the game’s first goal, and the deep American team won its 11th straight World Cup match, a record.

The United States will be heavily favored in Sunday’s final against Sweden or the Netherlands, who will play on Wednesday. It is the Americans’ third consecutive World Cup final.

Everybody stepped up. I was nervous because Rapinoe didn't play, but Christen Press filled in brilliantly.

Congratulations U.S. women!

Alyssa Naeher is women of the match in my opinion. Amazing save. It is clear though the talent gap between the US Women's Team and the rest of the world has closed significantly since more and more countries are investing in the women's game.

Which gives the USA a massive advantage in nurturing talent the talent it has.

Players from Canada, Jamaica, Cameroon, Australia, England, and many more, come to college here for that very reason.

Yeah, back in the 3 network days and the games aired in prime time the networks and radio stations might, and did not always give an alert. But expecting the millions of people on social media to temper their excitement and censor their posts seems asking too much. Today NPR gave the score right after it was over. No spoiler alert. It’s news and their job is reporting news.

If seeing the game without knowing the results is so important, keep the radio off and stay off the internet.

We play for the cup Sunday at 11:00. By 13:00 it will be all over. How long after that should the entire nation refrain from posting the final score.

My opinion. I am well aware others disagree.
