Democrat McGrath announces 2020 bid to challenge Sen. McConnell

Source: WLEX-TV

(LEX 18) — Democrat Amy McGrath, a retired Marine lieutenant colonel and combat pilot, announced Tuesday morning that she hopes to challenge Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for his seat in 2020.

McGrath made her announcement with a YouTube video,

She appeared later on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" to talk about her candidacy.

In her launch video, titled "The Letter," McGrath speaks softly from a living room while light piano music plays and takes aim at McConnell.

"It started with this man," McGrath says, tying the political dysfunction and hyper-partisan divide gripping Washington to McConnell's long tenure. She goes on to charge that McConnell has "bit by bit, year by year, turned Washington into something we all despise."

1. They just played that ad on "Morning Joe." One of the best I've ever seen.

She's too far right for me, but I suspect she's perfect for Kentucky. I hope she wins.

...with the exception of St. Matthews and The Highlands in Louisville, Democrats in the Commonwealth are way more conservative than most. I personally know a ton of registered Dems who voted for Trump. It's just the way Kentucky rolls. Having said that, if McGrath can catch fire, and find a message that resonates, she has a real chance to win. I wish the Hatch Act didn't preclude me from working on her campaign because I would. For sure.

She's got what it takes to beat the Turtle and that ad is going to change some minds I'm sure. Wouldn't that be just the icing on the cake to get rid of him? We've all said it on DU at some point or another, that it isn't just Trump that has to go. This guy is the worst of the worst; just another hate-filled, old white man who has been holding our country back and enabling Trump.

I may not live in Kentucky but I will send her what I can. It's going to take all of us to win back the Senate.

If she did it would be almost as joyous as tRump getting defeated.
