Two Police Officers Are Fired Over Facebook Post Saying Ocasio-Cortez 'Needs a Round'

Source: New York Times

Two police officers in Gretna, La., were fired on Monday, four days after one of them referred to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a “vile idiot” on social media and suggested that she should be shot.

Chief Arthur Lawson of the Gretna Police Department announced the terminations, saying that Charles Rispoli, the officer who wrote the Facebook post, and Angelo Varisco, who liked the post online, had violated the department’s social media policy.

“This incident, we feel, has been an embarrassment to our department,” Chief Lawson said at a news conference. “These officers have certainly acted in a manner which was unprofessional, alluding to a violent act to be conducted against a sitting U.S. congressman, a member of our government. We’re not going to tolerate that.”

their race or the job they do is a bad idea.
That aside I will grant you that a number of police departments in this country do have problems and its being caused mainly I believe by lax standards in recruitment followed by poor training.
Edit: Not to mention how poorly officers are held accountable for their actions by a number of police departments as well as varies politicians.

I mean, I doubt hitmen aren't murderers, same for mercenaries. Also, I strongly disagree, its not lack of training, its institutional corruption that where the rot starts in the head, its baked into the job.

Hell, where I live, there are 2 police unions, one for white officers and the other for black officers. They are mostly at odds with each other. The white officer union is encouraging its members to adopt the blue line Punisher logo in their social media, because that's precisely how they view themselves, as "badass" murderous vigilantes. They also have a tendency to behave that way as well.

I've tried before to make the point you're making, and it never goes well. So kudos for fighting the good fight, but you won't find a receptive audience for it, unfortunately. But you're exactly right, it's the same sort of bogus thought process that underpins racial bias. "A person who is X did this, therefore all people who are X are like this." And then people wonder why the left is perceived as anti-cop...

white supremacy and violence that operates with little to no oversight?

Seriously, you insult every black man murdered by police officers who will never face justice.

For fuck's sake, look around you, anyone with any inkling of awareness should be made aware of the fact that most police forces in this country, particularly in the largest cities, are institutionally corrupt.

They can't very well investigate a threat against someone they're not protecting. That'd be like LAPD investigating a crime that took place in Las Vegas. Expecting them to do so is nonsensical.

Also, just because it hasn't been reported that Capitol PD and FBI are investigating doesn't mean they aren't actually doing so, you know...

That level of stupid assery alone should disqualify them from a job with a gun. Just believing an article saying that any politician in the country would complain about soldiers pay is a new level of dumb ass.

To be fair, their republican buddies have been so busy demonizing The Squad, perhaps they thought they really were that unpatriotic. Still, something that ridiculous should be fact checked before threatening to shoot someone. Enjoy your new career at the mall.
