Trump administration pursues rule that would remove 3.1 million people from food stamps

Source: Reuters

The Trump administration on Tuesday will propose a rule to tighten food stamp restrictions that would cut about 3.1 million people from the program, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials said.

Currently, 43 U.S. states allow residents to automatically become eligible for food stamps through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, if they receive benefits from another federal program known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF, according to the USDA....

Current rules allow people to access SNAP benefits worth thousands of dollars for two years without going through robust eligibility reviews, he told reporters on the call.

“Unfortunately, automatic eligibility has expanded to allow even millionaires and others who simply receive a TANF-funded brochure to become eligible for SNAP when they clearly don’t need it,” Lipps said.

let's have at it. But I doubt that's the purpose of this proposal, and extremely few, maybe a dozen, receive SNAP benefits

This is being done to shame anyone in need, once again, as well as those who feel that it is wrong to starve needy people in the culture of plenty of billionaires.

The anti-christ bellows and feeds the culture of abuse he thrives on.

Shame on the GOP, Shame on his enablers of any political or media stripe, Shame on America that we still allow this kind of policy perversion without rising up and ending it.

When did it become acceptable to murder our neighbors and fellow citizens?

So now they become the latest in a long series of those abused to suit the culture of excess by the ultrawealthy, and the paranoia they feed their followers on.

Just imagine cutting off the food supplies for a city the size of Los Angeles or Chicago. That is what will be accomplished along with collateral damage to surrounding communities of every kind.

We have much that is yet to be done, and many who have been tortured by the way we respond to needs. But this is a case of mean spirited and intentional damage caused by removing something which we already had in place which has helped mitigate the needs of some people.

It's despicable. We already have a huge problem with poor overall child nutrition. One would think the business-oriented GOP would support good child health to create a better workforce! But instead, they seem to need a group of bogeymen to shame and create fear to get votes.

I think other parts of their motives are:

* To cut government spending anywhere they can to keep us in the Dem/GOP cycle of budget & tax ups and downs, allowing them to force Dems to increase spending and taxes when we're in power (and make us look bad), then cut spending & taxes when they're in office to help their billionaires that fund them. They don't seem to care how cruel the cuts are.

* They have the delusion that cutting welfare spending will reduce unemployment to make them look good during election campaigns. That's totally wrong-headed and tends to reduce wage rates, which they love as well. Increased poverty tends to force people to either work for less or not be able to work at all.

The GOP is indeed the party of evil and cruelty and people having any moral fiber should shed their ties to the GOP if they're true to their fundamental doctrines.

That's absolute bullshit. I don't think millionaires are going to sit in grungy county offices for hours to convince a social worker they need food stamps to feed their families. Give me a break!

Anybody I've every known in this program was there because they wanted to eat, including myself years ago. This is akin to Reagan's, "Welfare Cadillac".

Just one more way to subjugate the poor, and get more dollars for the wealthy (who are NOT on food stamps for godsakes!)

Are you telling me that a land that can project massive military power in all corners of this earth within minutes can't feed it's own people in it's time of need? Are you actually trying to convince me of this? Sorry republicans I ain't buying your bullshit. A nation so rich where the most wealthy among it's citizens can literally burn it's money but that can not take care of it's own is no nation worthy of survival.

It's time, the "resistance" must become the "revolt"!
