House Democrats Unveil Climate Goal Short of Ocasio-Cortez's

Source: bloomberg

Democrats in the House unveiled a target to stave off climate change Tuesday, one that is a far cry from the controversial Green New Deal being championed by New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives.

Instead, leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee announced they would pursue legislation this year that calls for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, a less ambitious but politically realistic alternative to Ocasio-Cortez’s sweeping Green New Deal.

“The climate crisis is here, and it requires serious federal leadership that’s up for the challenge,” said Representative Frank Pallone, a New Jersey Democrat and chairman of the committee.

He said there would be a series of hearings and meetings with stakeholders with the aim of creating legislation by the end of the year. “We’re going to start a process,” he said.

But they will start having "hearings and meetings with stakeholders". We all know what that means.. Let the consultations with lobbyists begin. Sure to create some pragmatic incremental baby steps to seal our fate without rocking the boat for big capital.

But people seem to be cool with possible extinction. Just don't take away their iphones and Latte.

8. Since OAC's communication director already admitted the plan was not about climate.

But furthering the Democratic Socialist agenda, I’m not losing too much sleep over it.

Anyone reading the Green New Deal could see it was not really a green deal at all. It cribbed all the Democratic Socialist agenda points in detail.

And before attacking this post. Look up and read the Green New Deal. Then read the Democratic Socialist platform.

To suggest that the Green New Deal is the only game in town for dealing with climate change is disingenuous.

The Democratic Party is serious about this issue.

9. Yes, they're so serious about it that they're adding 20 years to the target date of the "plan"

From reading some analysis from climate scientists. Now Democrats are basically adopting a bill with weaker goals?
