Mitch McConnell blocks election security legislation
Source: CBS News
Hours after former special counsel Robert Mueller testified Wednesday that Russians are still meddling in the U.S. political system, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked the advancement of legislation to secure the nation's election system. Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith also blocked a set of bills on election security Wednesday.
In blocking the legislation crafted by Senate Democrats to provide more funding for election security, McConnell declared the effort partisan and insisted the Trump administration has already done much to secure the nation's elections.
One bill McConnell objected to would have both required the use of paper ballots and provided funding for the Election Assistance Commission. He also objected to legislation that would have required campaigns and candidates to report offers offers of election-related aid from foreign governments.

A variant of this has probably already been on here, several times? But I think it is worthwhile to remember that Moscow Mitch McConnell (tip to Morning Joe) is keeping attempts to secure our elections at bay. Why? Is he on the Russian payroll too? Is he scared of pissing off Trump?
But Moscow Mitch said something that stuck with me:
(MCConnell) insisted the Trump administration has already done much to secure the nation's elections.
Say what, Mitch? Please elaborate on what in the hell you have been doing about the Russian breach? Trump denies it even happened.
Does ANYONE have a clue about what the Trump admin has already done to secure our elections? This is the first I've heard of it.

(14,300 posts)Trump personally approved the US Cyber Command counterattack on Russia on election day 2018. Im not sure I buy that detail, but at least something was done. Nakasone did a good job, and I think it helped us win the House. Which is why I doubt Trump approved it.

Other than that, I dont know what else has been done. Certainly Mitch has blocked legislation and investigations to secure our elections, and Trump would likely veto whatever bills did get through.
There is still the ongoing counterintelligence investigation spun off from Mueller, but I have no details at all about that...just that its ongoing.
