Texas set to end ban on brass knuckles

Source: The Hill

In less than two weeks, Texas residents will be allowed to carry brass knuckles for self defense.

Starting Sept. 1, brass knuckles will be removed from the Texas Penal Code's list of prohibited weapons under legislation signed into law by Gov. Gregg Abbott (R) earlier this year.

An analysis of the law conducted by the House Research Organization, a nonpartisan independent department of the Texas state House, states that it is currently “an offense to intentionally or knowingly possess, manufacture, transport, repair or sell certain items, including knuckles.”

“Illegally possessing knuckles is a class A misdemeanor,” which punishable by up to a year in prison in Texas and a fine of up to $4,000, the department adds.

They are nothing more than an expensive toy. You have to pay $200 for a tax stamp, be fingerprinted, and undergo a background check. The pro-suppressor advocates want these restrictions removed.

They are nothing like TV and moves have portrayed. A suppressed gun is still loud.

Nasty things, those. Used mostly by people who want to beat someone up and cause really serious facial injuries. They're not much use as a defensive weapon, really, because it takes a few seconds to get them out of your pocket and put them on. Meanwhile, the guy who is beating you up gets a head start.

They're really good for 1930s gangsters who are beating on someone who had no weapons at all, though. Your loan shark enforcer and others of that ilk.

Uffda!

you can take them places that won't allow guns and knives.

funny thing is, brass knuckles are illegal, but a suicide shift handle or foot peg in the general shape of brass knuckles is A-ok. and the way those dang ol bikes shake, you never can tell when your shift handle might just come detached. oops.

this arose from a woman arrested for carrying a key chain that could be worn on the knuckles and used for self-defense. Not arguing that we aren't barbaric, backward hicks, but there was pretty widespread agreement that the law had outlived its usefulness. Evildoers have a variety of much more effective weapons to choose from.
