Trump has 62 percent disapproval rating in new AP poll
Source: The Hill
The majority of Americans in a new poll disapproves of President Trumps overall performance, despite greater support for the presidents handling of the economy than other issues in the survey.
Sixty-two percent of Americans said they disapprove of the job Trump is doing, while just 36 percent approve, according to the Associated PressNORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released Thursday.
While low compared to former President Obama, Trumps latest approval rating is relatively consistent with the polling results seen throughout his first term. Trumps approval rating has stayed between 32 and 42 percent throughout his time in office, the AP noted.
Amid fears of a recession, which Trump and administration officials have dismissed, 46 percent of Americans now approve of Trumps handling of the economy, based on the poll.

(35,437 posts)How many of that 62% will still vote for him because they're getting an extra $150 in their weekly paycheck?
That's our problem in a nutshell. Too many Americans put their own, immediate, narrow-minded self interests ahead of everything else including their own morality.

(9,979 posts)I didnt, nor did any of my family or friends. Some found that what they thought was a tax cut was simply a change in withholding amounts that turned into tax owed in April. I suspect Trumps biggest hidden supporters are those who are in good jobs with 401ks because the stock market has been very good for them this year, especially those in red states with lower state tax burdens whose deductions were not penalized as in states with high state tax burdens.

(4,533 posts)The Trump admin wanted people to know they got a tax cut so in Feb 2018 the IRS reduced employer withholding. But that was politically dumb. With less withheld refunds in 2019 shrank. People look at refund size to determine whether taxes went up or down. When refunds were smaller, because less was withheld, they mistakenly thought they got no tax cut.
But know higher prices because of tariff taxes have wiped out much of the tax cut anyway.

(14,564 posts)Cuz socialism and giving away free stuff. That is the problem. Watching Don Lemon last night, and he's no conservative, had the old Ohio governor on who's a never Trumper, and he said Democrats just got to make sure they don't nominate someone who gives free stuff away and lemon agreed yes that is a problem.

(3,696 posts)The rational voters will accept that Trump's tax cut, tariffs and other bone headed actions is to blame and not anything the Dems did. Sadly Dems will have to clean up the mess when we regain the White House. Just like we also do.

(1,306 posts)How do you prove to the population that the "great" economy isn't because of things trump has done, but rather it's "great" in spite of what he's done, and is instead a consequence of how strong Obama's policies turned out to be.
Most of the idiots I talk to think the economy sucked until noon January 20, 2017 and then suddenly became awesome!

(7,629 posts)Many because the corporate world was just thrilled in anticipation of their coming tax cuts and erasure of many of those pesky regulations plus there was the promise of further crippling all those darn regulatory agencies too.
The stock market is something everyone knows about so people notice when it goes up although most don't even own any stocks.
Unemployment numbers they know about as well even though they turned out to be cooking the books on those figures.
So yeah, the "economy" got better for some people but little good it did the average wage slave as we all know.
I guess a few will get a clue when they don't get the same size tax refund they usually receive. But they'll blame Obama or us for screwing with their withholding some how. Hannity or that fat drug addict will enlighten them and I don't mean Trump.

Which means on his strongest suit he is still underwater or even. And as the economy continues to slow that number will not go up.
