The controversial Keystone XL Pipelines plan to pass through Nebraska was approved Friday by the states highest court, according to the Nebraska Supreme Courts online filings.
The Keystone pipeline faces further hurdles ahead, including a federal lawsuit in Montana seeking to block construction, as well as ongoing opposition from Native American tribes throughout Nebraska and South Dakota that have pledged to protest if construction is approved.
Former President Obama rejected the Keystone XL Pipeline plan, but it was revived under President Trump who seeks to finish the pipeline that would transfer crude oil passing through tribal lands.
In Friday's ruling the state Supreme Court upheld that the state's Public Service Commission acted appropriately when it approved the path for the pipeline through Nebraska, ABC affiliate KETV reports.
