Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent treatment for tumor on pancreas
Source: Washington Post
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has undergone radiation treatment for a malignant tumor found on her pancreas, the Supreme Court disclosed Friday. It is her second treatment within a year for cancer. The court said the treatment began earlier this month, and has been completed. The tumor was treated definitively and there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body, the courts spokeswoman said in a statement. Justice Ginsburg will continue to have periodic blood tests and scans. No further treatment is needed at this time.
Ginsburg last December had part of a lung removed after cancer was discovered there. For the first time, the 86-year-old justice missed a monthly sitting of the court, although she kept up with oral arguments and wrote a decision from a case argued that month. She has said since that her health is fine, and that she intends to continue to serve.
Here is the courts statement:
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg today completed a three-week course of stereotactic ablative radiation therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. The focused radiation treatment began on August 5 and was administered on an outpatient basis to treat a tumor on her pancreas. The abnormality was first detected after a routine blood test in early July, and a biopsy performed on July 31 at Sloan Kettering confirmed a localized malignant tumor. As part of her treatment, a bile duct stent was placed. The Justice tolerated treatment well. She cancelled her annual summer visit to Santa Fe, but has otherwise maintained an active schedule. The tumor was treated definitively and there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body. Justice Ginsburg will continue to have periodic blood tests and scans. No further treatment is needed at this time.

(220 posts)She won a bouts with pancreatic cancer back in 2009, and correctional cancer in 1999. More recently she fought off lung cancer last year.
She is a real hero and our country cannot afford to lose. her. I know she will not give up and will fight with all she has. Keep the prayers coming.

(175,731 posts)I'm hanging in there, enjoying a perfect September afternoon -- temps in the 70s, sunshine, low humidity, a nice breeze. It could stay like this all year.
Hope you're doing well.

(128,813 posts)Our heat finally broke today and it's supposed to be a beautiful weekend with lower humidity and temps.
Have a pile of monarch butterfly chrysalises in one of those pop-up enclosures outside. I had 2 females and 1 male eclose today and there are 7 more to go with 4 caterpillars still pigging out, so they have kept me busy the past couple weeks. It will be nice to add back to the declining population of those creatures!

(175,731 posts)Your work with butterflies sounds fascinating. Sadly, I don't have a yard here, or even a balcony. On the plus side, I not longer have yard work and mowing the grass.
Sounds like your efforts are paying off.

(175,731 posts)But I didn't know at the time and it does have "weed" in the name.
I have some minor projects around here planned for the weekend. At least the windows are open and letting in fresh air.
Have a terrific weekend yourself.

(26,727 posts)Would have been the nominee over Kavanaugh or maybe even Gorsuch... but Trump wanted to save her specifically to make replacing Ginsburg easier.
