Carli Lloyd 'seriously considering' NFL offer, report says
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer
After her 55-yard field goal at a recent Eagles-Ravens joint practice went viral, U.S. womens soccer team star Carli Lloyd told Fox Sports that she is seriously considering an offer that her trainer James Galanis said Lloyd received from an anonymous NFL team.
I am having discussions with my husband [Brian Hollins] and James about the reality of playing in the NFL, the Delran native told Fox. They both feel that I could do it and should consider it. So Im seriously considering it, as its a challenge. ... I would probably enjoy it.
Galanis started the hype train by telling Fox earlier that at least three NFL teams had approached Lloyd to come to their training camps. One of them offered her a place on the team for a preseason game Thursday night, but Lloyd turned it down because the U.S. women are playing at Lincoln Financial Field at the same hour.
The friendly against Portugal (7 p.m., Fox Sports 1) has sold more than 45,000 tickets, setting a record for the biggest attendance for a standalone U.S. team friendly.

(4,341 posts)I imagine the money offer may be good, but can you imagine her taking a headbutt on the ribs from a 220lbs guy coming at very fast speed? I don't know how she can survive that. Even worst if she gets hit on the head...
Anyway, people have to do what they think they can do.
When I was 11 years old, during a Soccer game, the principle became impressed, so he asked me to play the next game with the older team, which was comprised of kids that were from 15 to 18 years old. I was fast, and had very good skills, but I didn't have the body, not even close. I played, and as I started to dribble my way around, the bigger kids became upset that I was getting the best of them so they decided I would get the best they could give me. I have never been kicked so much in my life, I thought they were going to break one of my legs, a couple of times when I had the ball they came right at me (shoulder push) and I flew like superman. I was way over my head. After the game I told the principle thank you, but I don't want to play on that team anymore. He understood.
Carli is such a great soccer player, I would hate to see her get injured. I wish her the best with her decision.

(33,643 posts)only so much money and only so many roster spots.
The only way she finds a team is if it's one where the punter handles kickoffs. Which is rare.
Although, the Raiders actually have a (rookie) punter who CAN nail the kickoffs as well ... but we also have a pretty solid kicker who will be doing FG's and kickoffs.
You can't put a female out there to do kickoffs, you just can't.

(2,517 posts)Meanwhile, a player who has maintained his game-ready form continues to be blackballed by the NFL because he had the gall to take a fucking knee during the National Anthem. A QB who led his team to the Super Bowl and - to this layman - has to be better than at least a few of the 32 starters in the current NFL, and certainly better (and roster worthy) than a few of the other 32 back up QBs.
If Ms. Lloyd signs a deal, she will break barriers and I wish her the best (and safety on the field) for doing so, but I also hope she'll give a direct nod and shoutout to Kap.
Priorities.....

First female starting QB for high school varsity team breaks 4 year losing streak:
There are lots of "first girl on football team" videos. I chose this one because I like her whole attitude, including how humble she is. Plus, as QB she's taking the hits -- even a broken collar bone. It's a fairly long video, but I think it's an inspiring one.
If Carli Lloyd chooses to play for the NFL, that's one more glass ceiling broken.

(22,566 posts)Maybe she could kick off, but if she is any kind of competitor she will be trying to make a tackle on a kickoff and when she mixes it up like that she becomes just another player on the field and will get crushed.

(3,997 posts)Unless she has uncanny pinpoint accuracy, NFL teams would go for a younger, stronger kicker, male or female. Some college guy just kicked an 80 yarder in practice.

Can you get a college student that comes with a worldwide established fan base?
