A mass shooting left seven people dead and many more injured in Odessa on Saturday. The suspect in the shooting has been killed.
Officials say the shooting started just after 3 p.m. when DPS Troopers tried to pull over a vehicle along I-20 at mile marker 131.
That's when the driver reportedly pointed a rifle at the rear window of the car and began firing his weapon.
A DPS Trooper and civilians were shot on the interstate.
According to OPD, the suspect shot at civilians on East Loop 338 and I-20 before they stole a U.S. Postal Service vehicle and continued the shooting spree.
The shootings continued along State Highway 191 until the suspect stopped at the Cinergy Movie Theater.
At the theater, the suspect shot an Odessa police officer and a Midland police officer before he was killed.
A total of 19 people were injured in the shooting and seven people were killed. According to the City of Odessa, five victims died in Odessa while three others died in Midland. One passed away at the Midland Memorial Hospital on Sunday morning.

(53,765 posts)as going postal as disgruntled PO employees were often the shooters. Maybe you're too young to remember that?

(13,591 posts)Granados was on the phone with her twin sister, Rosie, when Granados said she heard a gunshot, the surviving twin said. Then, Granados started screaming.
"It was very painful. I just wanted to help her, and I couldn't. I thought she had got bitten by a dog or something," Rosie Granados said sobbing in a phone interview with CNN. "I tried calling her name and she wouldn't answer." The gunman hijacked Granados' mail vehicle, said Silvia Torres, a spokeswoman with the USPS Inspection Service.
Rosie knew her sister's route and went looking for her, she said. Within 15 minutes, she found her sister. The police were already there. "She was laying on the floor when I got there. She was already gone," she told CNN in an interview from her home. "I just wanted to run to her and hug her ... kiss her."

(53,765 posts)and it is what it is to me. Mass shootings used to be called "going postal", as cynical as that sounds, and they were rare, but unfortunately because the NRA-ruled repug party won't allow any gun safety legislation to even get to the floor of the Senate for a vote, they are no longer rare and there will be another one in a week or two, and more and more and more after that.

(14,708 posts)Lots of information can be altered, obliterated, or even lost. It's actually easy to do with the tight access, say the access a super power with very sophisticated tools might have.
Consider that today, lots of social media posting is done under pseudonyms, and he was likely posting on sites where the admins don't want scrutiny and actually hold his beliefs. It's been known to happen on redstate and 4chan. It could happen faster if the fbi was doing it by requesting pages be hidden pending investigation.
Could someone find the pages in a reflector site? Maybe, if they were public to begin with. But someone would have to do a lot of digging, and that isn't what the press does any more. Even if someone was looking, it would take weeks to find, verify, and publish. By that time the cretins have won.
In other crimes, we find out everything the person thought or had on their computer. We know almost nothing about the why, or even the who. All the press does is quote abbot or some sheriff.
This is being covered up.

(14,708 posts)Thats a pretty old view of how the internet works.
Search indexes can be altered, site admins can make pages invisible, falso links can be inserted.
Its a miracle the net works at all. It is easy to disrupt anyone from getting to a link.
And under the patriot act and cybersecurity legislation, govt agencies can make binding requests on isps and network carriers to do just that if an active investigation requires it.
Is it gone? Not really, but good luck finding it instead of some sanitized version.
Its a very powerful way to disrupt the flow of information. And its all part of the toolkit... it just takes an official entity motivated to do it.
We normally trust investigative entities to not abuse the technology available to them. But this is bill barrs world.....

This sort of coverup is unprecedented and should be illegal. The public has a right to know.

They have released his name, misdemeanor record, no outstanding warrants, but haven't said anything about him - occupation, locale, affiliations. They mentioned a Facebook page but provided no details in the AP article I read.
He sure created a lot of mayhem for a novice, if that's where they're headed with it.

(26,259 posts)I'm wondering how much of a 'social media presence' he had.
This is from a Daily Mail article but I'll share it, anyway. Sometimes they do print actual news:
The West Texas shooter's neighbor said he carried a rifle while yelling at her over leaving trash in a nearby dumpster and that he used to shoot animals from his rooftop.
Veronica Alonzo told CNN that Seth Ator, 36, of Ector County, Texas, was her neighbor and that he had gone to her house last month, while carrying a large rifle, to yell at her for leaving garbage in a nearby dumpster.
She also said that Ator often shot animals in his yard while he was up in a structure on top of his home. He would then go and retrieve their corpses later.
Alonzo said that investigators were at Ator's home Sunday, putting small red flags at various locations outside his property, where she said he would shoot at the animals.
She claimed that Ator didn't have running water or electricity in his home and that when it was cold, she saw him sitting in his Toyota Camry with the heater on.

That was a disaster waiting to spread... and bingo the trigger was being fired, let me take a wild wild shot in the dark....
NO HEALTHCARE INSURANCE even though working OR that was why he couldn't pay bills?
It's done, folks need to evolve on the subject, clearly too much profit still in dismissing/ignoring it? [Who popped in your head, bingo!]
