Maxine Waters Says Mike Pence And The Attorney General Were Involved In The Ukraine "Conspiracy"
Source: BuzzFeed
Rep. Maxine Waters, one of the six Democratic committee chairs leading the Houses impeachment investigation, told BuzzFeed News AM to DM on Friday that she believes both Attorney General Bill Barr and Vice President Mike Pence were involved in President Donald Trumps attempts to pressure Ukraine for information on former vice president Joe Biden.
<snip>
Both Barr and Pence are named in a whistleblower complaint alleging Trump abused his office in a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump repeatedly asked the Ukrainian leader to help investigate Biden ahead of the 2020 election. But the involvement of Barr and Pence is less clear.
Waters was asked about Trumps statement Wednesday that reporters should also look at Pences communications with Ukraine; Trump had said the vice president had a couple of conversations also.
<snip>
I expect that Pence is part of this conspiracy to try to get Ukraine to do something in a fake investigation and come out with some dirt on Biden, Waters said. So Im looking forward to that coming out in the hearings that will be done by the Judiciary Committee as they take up the impeachment resolution.

Since I was too young to remember but I love the Maddow podcast Bagman...(they were crooked POSs) although this cast of crooks currently will surpass them.

(48,988 posts)Both tRump and Pence would have to resign simultaneously or be convicted simultaneously in one Senate vote or be on the same crashing plane.
Never going to happen.
If Pence ascends, he appoints his own VP.

(259 posts)I think what they would most likely do is pressure Pence to resign at the earliest possible opportunity and then pressure Trump to appoint either some innocuous figure like a retired Republican Senator or Governor or, whoever there choice might be to replace Trump on the ticket. The later is least likely as it might tend to "taint" that individual by mere association.

(7,212 posts)Fantasy - of course. Lack of understanding, no.
"If Pence ascends, he appoints his own VP."
When a Vice-President assumes the presidency, he nominates his choice for VP. And that nomination is is subject to approval of both the House and the Senate.

(7,212 posts)The original post was about Maxine Waters saying Pence is up to his ass in the Ukraine conspiracy along with Barr. They are a matched set. Other posts (in particular, Talking Points Memo) have said both Trump and Pence have to go. Should that happen Pelosi automatically becomes president.
And she would not have to nominate anyone as her VP because there is nothing in the Constitution that requires her to do so. And any Senate trial would be close enough to the general election so why bother? The GOP Senate would not confirm anyone, so better wait and let the Democrat presidential candidate make his choice.

(48,988 posts)The Pres & VP offices will not be simultaneously vacant. The GOP will in sure that.

(4,490 posts)Without a VP she would be next in line and automatically become President should Pence also be gone. The fantasy would go like this:
1. Trump removed/resign
2. House fails to approve Pence's VP nomination
3. Pence removed/resign
4. Pelosi sworn in due to the laws of succession

Thsi does not allow for: Igel said, "I think Trump is great."
She believes they were involved.
My wife says she believes that the Methodists follow the Bible. Even if she said, "The Methodists follow the Bible," it's still less veridical fact and more her personal opinion.
