Nearly two-thirds of US voters say Trump has not made them better off

Source: Financial Times

Nearly two-thirds of Americans say they are not better off financially than they were when Donald Trump was elected, casting doubt on whether economic expansion and a record bull market will boost the president’s re-election campaign in 2020.

According to a poll of likely voters conducted by the Financial Times and the Peter G Peterson Foundation, 31 per cent of Americans say they are now worse off financially than they were at the start of Mr Trump’s presidency. Another 33 per cent say there has been no change in their financial position since Mr Trump’s inauguration in January 2017, while 35 per cent say they are better off.

Persistently slow wage growth appeared to be a main driver of discontent, with 36 per cent of those who said they were worse off blaming their income levels. On Friday, the US labour department said average hourly income had risen 3 per cent in October, growth that was near highs for the past decade but lower than before the financial crisis. Another 19 per cent pointed to personal or family debts as the reason they felt worse off.

The FT-Peterson poll’s findings underline the challenges facing Mr Trump, who is relying on his stewardship of the economy as a main argument for his re-election. The president has repeatedly touted stock market records and robust job creation as his administration’s most important accomplishment, and has angrily blamed the US Federal Reserve for any signs of economic weakness.

that is pretty good considering that the republicans claim they are 1/3 of the voting population..2/3 of the country is basically against ...

Think of it this way...So the last number that was reported that republican base were at 74% FOR trump...He has lost 25% of them...ok? Now given that,, there are 42 million democrats compared to 30 million republicans....and figure in 24 million independents...13% lean toward the Republican Party and 17% lean toward the Democratic Party.

See what I am getting at? VOTE We can't afford NOT TO VOTE...People who stay home and do not vote lose our elections...these politicians figure money is the biggest contributor to an election,,not so,,the people are...there have been elections lost who contributed millions ,,so we must get out and vote and encourage every person we know to vote..

GREAT. Also the traitors who work in the WH, collecting taxpayer money for defending the clown in office. The gop collected most of the Russian money, with Moscow Mitch leading that pack.

Apparently, according to those pushing the horse race, the economy ISN'T that important.

The meme is, jobs and kitchen table issues are important, and democrats are TOO FAR LEFT.

So republicans, who are pushing NOTHING except "save the president from the lefties witch hunt", and democrats, who are sending bill after bill to help average American citizens, to the senate, where they just sit there due to republicans/Moscow Mitch blocking the votes, result in almost 50% of Americans willing to accept the situation as it is...

This implies Americans are more racist than selfish.

I feel so much better...

Coincidentally, it is about 1/3 of the voters who support Mr Trump no matter what.

My best friend since childhood is basically homeless with no car and is couch surfing different friends homes. I have given her money several times and am looking to buy her a cheap used car if I can. I never thought it would get so bad for her.

A guy I work with was telling me he only makes enough to pay his rent and is hungry all the time. Life is so hard now for people. I almost feel guilty I am fortunate enough to not be struggling. My parents brought me up to be frugal and save whenever you can and if you can’t pay for it outright you don’t buy it. My dishwasher died and I brought a new one. My husband commented that we just went out and brought one without it hurting our budget. Another co worker said her plumbing under her sink needed to be repaired she is now in big debt getting this repaired. This is bS while the rich get tax cuts, regular good hardworking people are struggling and the MF45 is doing nothing but whining about himself being caught as a traitor to our country. I despise this MFer so much. It makes me sick.

Americans, struggling in this country to try and make ends meet. It should have never gotten this bad, especially when you see the number of millionaires and billionaires go up by fantastic percentages, and the everyday, average American is still struggling. Something is wrong w/ this picture. It isn't the America I imagined when I was growing up.

And we were in Monte Carlo seeing those mega yachts was disgusting. The extravagant wealth when so many people are hungry and homeless made me sick. Went into a store and a little cotton tee shirt was 95£? I ended up buying a T-shirt from a local person for12£? Same kind of shirt as the 95£ Shirt in the chi chi store.
