COMMITTEES RELEASE TESTIMONY OF YOVANOVITCH AND McKINLEY AS PART OF NEW PUBLIC PHASE OF IMPEACHMENT
Source: House Intelligence Committee
Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Adam B. Schiff, the Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Rep. Eliot L. Engel, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Rep. Carolyn Maloney, the Acting Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, released the transcripts of former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie "Masha" Yovanovitch and former Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State Ambassador P. Michael McKinley.
Both of these individuals testified before the Committees as part of the House of Representatives' impeachment inquiry of President Donald J. Trump. The resolution passed by the House last week authorized the Committees to make the inquiry transcripts of their recent depositions and interviews available to Members and public at the discretion at the Chairman of the Intelligence Committee in advance of open hearings.
The three Chairs issued the following statement announcing today's releases:
"As we move towards this new public phase of the impeachment inquiry, the American public will begin to see for themselves the evidence that the committees have collected. With each new interview, we learn more about the President's attempt to manipulate the levers of power to his personal political benefit.
"The transcripts of interviews with Ambassadors Yovanovitch and McKinley demonstrate clearly how President Trump approved the removal of a highly respected and effective diplomat based on public falsehoods and smears against Ambassador Yovanovitch's character and her work in support of long-held U.S. foreign policy anticorruption goals.
"Ambassadors Yovanovitch and McKinley's testimony also demonstrates the contamination of U.S. foreign policy by an irregular back channel that sought to advance the President's personal and political interests, and the serious concerns that this activity elicited across our government.
"Unfortunately, despite those concerns, the transcripts also show clearly that efforts to secure public support for Ambassador Yovanovitch from the senior-most levels of the State Department were never realized, thanks to worry among t

Amb. Yovanovitch is a dedicated American diplomat who was forced from her position after a vicious smear campaign orchestrated by the president's allies.
Today, we're releasing her transcript, and that of another committed public servant, Amb. McKinley.https://intelligence.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID757 ...

(14,708 posts)It won't be long. Trump is insanely jealous of his ownership of the shit show that the news cycle has become.
He, or one of his sycophants, will do something outlandish and the camera lenses will shift.
ts his strategy to wear us down and stop caring. It works on a lot of murica I'm afraid.....
Keep on message.....

(128,846 posts)so they figured that was their "Take THAT Libs!" at Democrats.
So then some transcripts got released today, which became one of these back at 'em -

(30,733 posts)I had to spend quite a bit of time keeping things straight then, and watching all the hearings in rerun.
This may be easier, with the Internet. But there seem to be more players and more corruption.
I am much older, and have less time, believe it or not. I am busy doing the basic scut work of being a Democrat: we, my husband and I, are busy collecting signatures on nominating petitions for two candidates. We are circulating my petition for precinct committee person as well, and recruiting other precinct committee people and election judges.
We can't have a blue wave without people on the ground.
We WILL have a blue wave again. We will support Schiff and all the other good people who are trying to keep democracy from dying.
Thank you for this post.

Mr.Bill
(24,282 posts)is that many people have DVRs and will record the proceedings to watch after they get home from work or whatever. Far more people will see the hearings now than during Watergate. Back then we were at the mercy of whatever excerpts the evening news showed.

(12,265 posts)The dumbing down of the national electorate is almost complete. There is a small group of engaged people who understand how to read and comprehend written material, the rest want no part of it. They will go on what they read on facebook, twitter and instagram. I honestly don't know how to fight that.
We are all assuming that things are the same as they were prior to 2016, they are not and may never be again. There are not a ton of normal people out there right now.
10 years ago if this had come out about the President he would be impeached, now I don't know.

(128,846 posts)it is more to troll the GOP politicians while it starts to push the media to begin to craft a narrative that there is malfeasance going on in the WH and "more proof" just came out. People don't need to know all the nuts and bolts - just need to know the fact that multiple people are corroborating that "something bad was done".
I don't think there is an issue with "impeaching". The issue now is with "removal" which most likely won't happen in the Senate due to the hyper-partisanship. But in that case, the hope is that such ignoring of blatant criminality, rallies voters to say "enough is enough" and they take the time to vote, hopefully for Democrats, up and down the ballot.

(2,900 posts)Were dealing with the manipulation of masses of low information voters who are just smart enough to vote; yet too dumb to understand its consequences.
I want to say that Im amused by their stupidity; however quite the opposite. I am terrified by it; honestly.
They are being led by powerful special interest groups who have merely commoditized their existence. Youre only worth so much to these grifters; soon enough youll become a nuisance; when the time is most beneficial to them; however...
In the meantime; we all suffer as a result of their ignorance.
