Trump Campaign's Meal Contests Are 'Out-and-out Fraud' if Nobody Wins, Says Ex-White House Lawyer

Source: newsweek

By Shane Croucher On 11/6/19 at 10:51 AM EST

If the Trump 2020 campaign is holding phony contests to raise money by offering a prize of meeting President Donald Trump that is not honored then it is "out-and-out fraud," a former White House lawyer said, and could lead to prosecutions.

The Popular Information newsletter reported that the Trump campaign has held 15 contests since 2018 offering the prize, which includes a meal, travel and hotel expenses, and a photo with Trump for the winning donor.

Other campaigns have used the same cash-raising tactic, including those of Jeb Bush, Barack Obama, Elizabeth Warren, and Pete Buttigieg. These contests are typically followed up with an announcement of a winner and images from the meal.

But there appears to be little, if any, public evidence of any winners to date of the Trump campaign's contests, raising questions about who has won the prizes.

When asked for comment, Kayleigh McEnany, national press secretary for Trump 2020, directed Newsweek to a tweet by the campaign's communications director, Tim Murtaugh. "People win the contests each time," Murtaugh tweeted, without elaborating further..............................

Then a pre-recorded video of 45 giving thumbs-up.

I can't imagine him EVER sitting down with a citizen who won something for any indeterminate length of time - especially if they weren't pre-screened. He's weird about food, and probably would loathe having to talk to someone he doesn't know for the length of a meal.

With his businesses doing badly, Trump may be getting all the donations he can any way he can. He’ll spend some on 2020 and pocket the rest. He gets a lot of free advertising from Fox and hate radio.

I have a picture in my mind of him scarfing down food, with it dripping down his chin and stuck in his fake teeth and then wiping his mouth with the long, red tie he wears everywhere. Now, isn't that a delightful image? Would you want to sit down and eat with that?

The “prize” would be a meal at one of his resorts, and you would be overcharged for tasteless, highly processed and greasy food. The charge would be considered an “administrative” charge, so he could say the meal was free. The closest you would get to Trump is looking at his photo on every wall in the restaurant.

10. "They were talking about the Lottery"...

They were talking about the Lottery. Winston looked back when he had gone thirty metres. They were still arguing, with vivid, passionate faces. The Lottery, with its weekly pay-out of enormous prizes, was the one public event to which the proles paid serious attention. It was probable that there were some millions of proles for whom the Lottery was the principal if not the only reason for remaining alive. It was their delight, their folly, their anodyne, their intellectual stimulant. Where the Lottery was concerned, even people who could barely read and write seemed capable of intricate calculations and staggering feats of memory. There was a whole
tribe of men who made a living simply by selling systems, forecasts, and lucky amulets. Winston had nothing to do with the running of the Lottery, which was managed by the Ministry of Plenty, but he was aware (indeed everyone in the party was aware) that the prizes were largely imaginary. Only small sums were actually paid out, the winners of the big prizes being non-existent persons. In the absence of any real intercommunication between one part of Oceania and another, this was not difficult to arrange. -- "Nineteen Eight Four"

20. They Will Probably Put Out Photos
Wed Nov 6, 2019, 04:06 PM
Nov 2019

Whether there had been winners before, the Trump Campaign will likely put out photos of people having lunch/dinner with Trump and announce that those are the winners. If someone finds and points out the date information of the photo the Trump Campaign will likely say something like a timeline of when the lunch/dinner would happen was never announced and Trump had only recently been able to find the time to meet with the winners.

guilt about ripping them off, lying, and gaslighting them. It's true that his base is comprised of blackmailees and gullible idiots, but it's still sad to watch.

From the original article:

A heavily-promoted contest to win breakfast with President Trump in New York City on September 26 was a fraud. The "winner" of the contest, Joanna Kamis, did not have breakfast with Trump. Instead, she was invited to a breakfast at a New York City restaurant that Trump did not attend. Kamis was later permitted to take a photo with Trump.
