GOP Sen. Ron Johnson: Whistleblower 'Weakened' U.S.-Ukraine Relationship
Source: huff post
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on Sunday accused the whistleblower who filed a complaint regarding President Donald Trumps dealings with Ukraine of weakening the United States relationship with the Eastern European country.
The whistleblower, reportedly a CIA analyst formerly detailed to the White House, has alleged that Trump used military aid as leverage in his efforts to get Ukraine to investigate political rival Joe Biden. His complaint is the subject of the Houses ongoing impeachment inquiry into the president.

The whistleblower exposed things that didnt need to be exposed, he said.

But Johnson, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, blamed the whistleblower ― not Trump and his alleged pressure campaign ― for any strain on U.S.-Ukraine relations during an appearance on NBCs Meet the Press.
One thing that I want to point out is the damage thats being done to our country through this entire impeachment process, Johnson said.....................................

(6,181 posts)RoJo you keep hanging onto the starboard side of the "Trumptanic" as it slowly slips below the waves taking you and all the other GOP cultist with it.
His demise, your demise, and the GOP party's demise is coming soon.
As a WI constituant of yours let me say we have known since day one that you weren't the sharpest pencil in the box. You continue to reinforce that belief with each passing day. And apparently you are willing to go down with the ship. Good move for those who want to see you gone as well as 45.

(9,688 posts)But Johnson is one of the very worst of the lot.
I was flabbergasted that he won re-election in 2016, even given the fact that Wisconsin had still not recovered from its period of political darkness/confusion at that point.
The state and the country have to put up with this dodo until 2022. Ugh.

(565 posts)...at a time when our ally was and still is in a shooting war. The military aid was held up to create a false narrative to hurt the US president's political opponent before a reelection campaign of his own. The military aid had no strings or riders attached, and was to be provided as approved and not conditional upon the receiving country to do anything outside the agreement.
In the process, Trump strengthened our enemy and hurt our ally and dishonored the words and previous agreement. This harm to our Country creates future doubt from our allies and other nations in need for security dealings with the United States. They may fear that to deal with the U.S. in the future for security or arms, the receiving country may have to conduct a secret deal and fabricate stories against political opponents or for other political illegal acts. Hence, we have lost trust in our allies! That trust has to be rebuilt, but Trump has got to go first!

(7,402 posts)And he sounds like him too.
Interesting that he thinks it could have been handled behind the scenes too be cause that is exactly what Trump was doing using Rudy. The PM should be happy this monkey was taken off of his back. He just needs to be careful for the next 15 months. Lord knows what Johnson means by that as the whistleblower did handle it behind the scenes and the IG took it to the House as require by the Whistleblower law.

(43,144 posts)It's not the whistleblower's fault, and it's not the impeachment process that is the source of the problem. It's the President's crimes in office. THAT's what undermined our relationship with our Ukraine ally.
