BREAKING Jeffrey Epstein Suicide: Two Jail Workers Arrested

Source: New York Times

Two federal workers who were on duty the night Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail were taken into custody early Tuesday on federal charges related to their alleged failure to check on him, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

The two federal Bureau of Prisons employees were expected to be charged later in the morning and appear in United States District Court in Manhattan.

The charges would be the first to arise from a criminal inquiry into the death of Mr. Epstein, who hanged himself at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.

The workers came under scrutiny shortly after Mr. Epstein’s death, because they were responsible for monitoring the high-security unit where Mr. Epstein, the disgraced financier who had previously been convicted of sex crimes, was being held.

Be polite and say you do not wish to answer questions. No one is obligated to talk to the police for anything more than routine matters such as an ID check in most states. That isn't even necessary in many places. Know your rights.

If you're driving a car and get pulled over you are obligated to show a license. If you're just walking down the street - not so much.

on arrest, yes, immediately stop talking, other than to say you want a lawyer.

but once you and your lawyer are in a position to cut a deal with a prosecutor, at that point, talking can be quite useful.

presumably that's what the post meant, though you certainly raise a very important point that the talking shouldn't be immediately upon arrest.

NOEL and THOMAS surrendered this morning. The case is assigned to Southern District of New York U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres.

Barr’s history with Epstein stretches back to the ‘70s, when Barr’s father hired Epstein to teach mathematics at Manhattan’s prestigious Dalton School. And Barr previously worked for Kirkland & Ellis, a law firm that represented Epstein during the 2008 Florida investigation.
Barr still didn't recuse himself from Epstein’s sex trafficking case, despite initially saying he would do so.

like a remote possibility.

But I feel bad for the guards because they probalbly put on enormous pressure before Jeff's death a
and afterwards too. We are dealing with organized crime here and Barr is a consigliere in this
international crime family.

Perhaps folks might actually READ the indictment:

20. As reflected on video obtained from the MCC's internal video surveillance system, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on August 9, 2019 — after' TOVA NOEL, the defendant, had signed and submitted the 10 p.m. count slip and the institutional count had been completed — NOEL briefly walked up to, and then walked back from, the door to the tier in which Epstein was housed. As confirmed by the video obtained from the MCC's internal video surveillance system, this was the last time anyone, including any correctional officer, walked up to, let alone entered, the only entrance to the tier in which Epstein was housed until approximately 6:30 a,.m. on August 10.

12. Epstein remained on suicide watch for approximately twenty-four hours, and then was transferred to psychological observation, until July 30, 2019. Psychological observation is less restrictive than suicide watch, but inmates are still housed in the hospital wing of the MCC and watched twenty-four hours a day.

13. On July 30, 2019, Epstein was transferred back to the SHU, and, at the direction of the MCC's psychological staff, was required to have an assigned cellmate. Epstein was also assigned to the cell closest to the correctional officers' desk in the common area of the SHU, which was approximately fifteen feet from the cell. Conducting the required institutional counts and thirty-minute rounds in the SHU were also part of the MCC's procedures for ensuring the safety of inmates, including Epstein.

Are you saying that the warden ordered Epstein back over the objection of the psychological staff?
