Former House Speaker John Boehner cried as his portrait was unveiled in a uniting moment

Source: Business Insider

Former House Speaker John Boehner has been immortalized with a congressional portrait in a uniting moment for Democrats and Republicans amid a divisive impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.

The portrait ceremony took place at the House of Representatives on Tuesday. Boehner, a Republican, served as House speaker for three terms in the past decade before resigning in 2015.

He received praise from Democrats and Republicans alike Tuesday, a rare occurrence since House Democrats opened the impeachment inquiry into Trump. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell came together to honor Boehner at the portrait unveiling Pelosi, who was unseated from a term in 2011 by Boehner, described him as a "great patriot" and "the personification of the American dream."

Boehner was known for getting emotional throughout his years he served in the House, and Pelosi recalled a moment in 2006 when Democrats regained House control."I think he was crying when he gave me the gavel as speaker of the House," Pelosi said.

I'm almost wistful. He is predictably true to his self-serving hypocrisy... Apparently, behind the scenes he could occasionally be worked with. Today's Trump sycophants are only predictable in their sycophancy and asshole nature.

It's something that the lunatic teabagger crowd completely lacks - "civility", a sense of respect. and the ability to disagree without being disagreeable. It has made us all furious at the nasty vitriol and childish antics that the current crop of GOP RWers have promoted and encouraged within more and more of their ranks. Rather than argue ideals they make it personal. In essence, they have found power by being junior high school bullies. Society has to step up to say enough is enough.

civility great when it is respects the OFFICE, and you maintain a professional standard

When it becomes a rich persons club where no amount of warmongering, stealing from the poor to give tax cuts to the rich, denying health care (people die), prison, on and on, then it's something else.

unless someone can get McCain-Feingold updated, passed, signed into law and able to withstand a SCOTUS review, it will continue to be a "rich person's club" here in the U.S. (and in many cases, even a law may not thwart it).

"Wealth" has always been a critical pillar of "power" and "politics" for literally thousands and thousands of years.
