Sondland Kept Pompeo Informed on Ukraine Pressure Campaign
Source: New York Times
WASHINGTON Gordon D. Sondland, the diplomat at the center of the House impeachment inquiry, kept Secretary of State Mike Pompeo apprised of key developments in the campaign to pressure Ukraines leader into public commitments that would satisfy President Trump, two people briefed on the matter said.
Mr. Sondland informed Mr. Pompeo in mid-August about a draft statement that Mr. Sondland and another American diplomat had worked on with the Ukrainians that they hoped would persuade Mr. Trump to grant Ukraines new president the Oval Office meeting he was seeking, the people said.
Later that month, Mr. Sondland discussed with Mr. Pompeo the possibility of pushing the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to pledge during a planned meeting with Mr. Trump in Warsaw that he would take the steps being sought by Mr. Trump as a way to break the logjam in relations between the two countries, the people said.
Mr. Pompeo expressed his approval of the plan, they said, but Mr. Trump later canceled his trip to Poland.

Pompeo's goose is now cooked.

(25,111 posts)That they are above the law. That laws and regulations do not pertain to them but for others who do not think like them. Republican ideology and beliefs coupled with their religion supersede and are superior than any one else who does not think, act and believe like them.
In other words - Superiority preferably "white".

(4,066 posts)They believe they serve some higher purpose that supersedes the Constitution. Pompeo and Barr are religious nuts who think they serve a magical sky-daddy who is going to rapture them away from us heathens soon. It's amazing to me that such otherwise intelligent people believe in those fairy tales.

(11,885 posts)Or tell the complete truth about it all. If he thinks he can just lie then trump will protect him he'll soon realize he was very wrong, because trump will try to make him the scapegoat, then get Barr to falsely criminalize him, but it'll all going to collapse on trump very soon as a lot more gets exposed, especially all the money laundering, all the tax fraud, bank fraud, wire fraud, and all the money he has hidden, all exposed, and he's really in debt beyond anything anyone ever dreamed of. Trump's on borrowed time now and Sondland will be going to prison if he lies any this time. Only a fool lies for trump , and will regret it. Even the Russian mafia will turn on trump soon.

(9,426 posts)Sad. Really sad that there are no intelligent people in the gop. They are proving themselves idiots with the impeachment hearings. tRump commented about someone, I forget who, that the person "was not capable of carrying Pompeo's jockstrap" I wondered at that time when tRump had SEEN that item? This is the weirdest administration EVER in the history of this country. How did all these losers assemble at one time, I wonder?

I think that aspect clouds their judgment. They are driven by greed just as their patrons are.
It narrows their perspective and reduces most decisions to those which either enrich their paymasters and themselves or which damages their political opposition.
That this particular group is so apparently inept is rooted in the goals of those who control it and who enabled Trump et al to gain the White House. It is they who shaped the GOP and this administration by carefully culling any thinkers from the party at all levels in favor of the narrow-minded sycophants so visibly and enthusiastically flinging poo during the investigation.
Vlad and his Mafia associates, along with Mercer, the Prince, Kochs inc., Netanyahu and ever so many foreign and domestic billionaires with an interest in steering U.S. policy in favorable directions: these are the reason GOP politicians are so very bad at what they do.
