Netanyahu to be indicted for bribery, fraud, breach of trust

Source: Axios

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will face indictments in all three corruption charges against him — for bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, according to Israeli officials.

Why it matters: The looming indictments have plunged Israel into a political deadlock following an inconclusive election two months ago. Netanyahu and Benny Gantz both failed to form coalitions, and a proposed national unity government has been blocked because Gantz refuses to serve under a prime minister facing corruption charges and Netanyahu refuses to step aside as prime minister because the indictments threaten his political survival.

By Washington Post Staff
November 21, 2019 at 11:35 a.m. EST

After a nearly three-year investigation, the country’s attorney general brings charges in three separate criminal cases as Netanyahu clings to power in Israel’s political stalemate.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Israel’s Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit announced Thursday that he was indicting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.

Netanyahu has previously denied any wrongdoing and has said he is the victim of a politically orchestrated "witch-hunt" by the media and the left.

It comes while Netanyahu is serving as Israel's caretaker prime minister after he failed to cobble together a government last month.

Netanyahu had hoped to pass legislation that would prevent him from being indicted but has been unable to do so because he failed to form Israel’s next government following the Sept. 17 election.

This has been going on since I think 2015??? Maybe 2013??? Too many people would read "expected to be indicated" as "indicted".
