Impeachment is about to get a Robert Mueller reprise

Source: Politico

Right now, impeachment is all about Ukraine. But after Thanksgiving, prepare for a Robert Mueller reprise.

Now that House Democrats have wrapped up public hearings on President Donald Trump’s pressure campaign to get Ukraine to launch politically advantageous investigations, there are plans to hold at least one public impeachment hearing on Trump’s misdeeds as alleged in the special counsel’s report.

It’s a gathering that could fuel articles of impeachment beyond those tied to the Ukraine controversy. Democrats say they have new Mueller-related fodder after Roger Stone’s recent trial raised questions about whether Trump provided false statements to the special counsel’s team. And the hearing could even feature a star witness — former White House counsel Don McGahn. A judge is set to rule in the coming days on whether McGahn must comply with a House subpoena.
Story Continued Below

House leadership signaled the plans in court filings and oral arguments this week, as the Democrats’ attorneys fought to get McGahn’s testimony, as well as access to more of the evidence Mueller used to write his final report.

Bolton is an ego maniac and may hate trump, but he is big into self preservation. He knows that hill and the others gave damning testimony that should be more than enough to convince peoplr.

At this point he must be wondering if the effort is worth the risk. There isnt anything he can add that would move the gop to remove trump. Trump has them locked in for the ride.

Im sure he is being threatened behind the scenes. He risks losing his reputation among the super evil and probably a lot of money on the news circuit.

He would gain little. For trump and company, its always a zero sum game.

Bolton will be compelled- he has said he will appear if the court rules he must.

The court's ruling on Monday will be a BFD.

I guess if he wanted to go for trump's jugular, he could get into areas that bring his fitness for humanity into question. Basically strip the "skin" off of all of trumps illusions. Stripping him metaphorically bare for all the world to see would destroy trumps self image; and that is all trump has.

It's what he fears most. If bolton is the mean, evil, self serving bastard we all believe he is, that would be an effective tactic to deploy. It would only affect trump personally and wouldn't drag other gop personalities in.

A perfect revenge. But it's likely also what is in his book, and he doesn't want to give that away for free.

And him giving damning testimony would skyrocket his coming book sales!
Far as I recall, he said he'd testify if the court ruled that McGahn should. I'm not positive though

It almost sounded like the Intelligence Committee was wrapping up their work. Do they have more witnesses to call? Or is this all heading over to the Judiciary Committee now? And are they going to hold hearings as well? Or is it time to write up the Impeachment Articles? The last few weeks have been so clear cut but they've been a little murky about next steps. Either way, American families have plenty to discuss over Thanksgiving, which may move the polling forward. I guess we all have some work to do.

If the court enforces the subpeonas, there could be more hearings with high ranking members/ former members of the administration.

If not, Intelligence will prepare a report to go to Judiciary.

and mcghan is the one who would have to do it since nobody else is in that suit. He has some jeopardy testifying. He already gave depositions - a lot of them - to muehlers probe. If he differs in any way, the doj could prosecute him for perjury, even if it is only an inadvertent error.

He may appeal.

The courts almost universally give a plaintiff time to appeal before issuing orders to comply. Typically it's about 10 days.

All it takes is a request by the plaintiffs attorney. It's pretty standard.

Of course, mcghan may not appeal the ruling. But it's more likely he will.
