Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher Accuses Official of 'Meddling' in War Crime Case, Suggests It's 'All About
Source: Newsweek
Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher mocked one of the "mean girl" witnesses to his accused 2017 war crimes for "crying," and went on to thank President Donald Trump and claimed that top military officials with "egos" are "meddling" in his case.
Gallagher appeared on Fox & Friends Sunday morning just minutes after Trump personally touted the interview on Twitter. Last week, Trump tweeted that the Navy "will NOT" be taking away Gallagher's revered trident over his failure to uphold good order and discipline after Gallagher was accused and later acquitted of several war crimes, including the killing of Iraqi civilians and the murder of an ISIS captive with a hunting knife. However, Gallagher was convicted in July of one charge after he posed in several pictures with a dead teenaged captive, The New York Times reported.

Gallagher mocked his accusers and detractors, including Navy Rear Admiral Collin Green, whom he called "insubordinate" and having too much "ego." Gallagher said he plans to expose next week how the Secretary of the Navy, Richard Spencer, was "meddling in my case and trying to get organizations not to support me."
"This is all about ego and retaliation, this has nothing to do with good order or discipline. They could have taken my trident at any time they wanted. Now they're trying to take it after the president restored my rank," Gallagher said, before threatening to expose top Navy officials of corruption.

(12,578 posts)Who cares about following the Uniform Code of Military Justice when all you have to do is get on Fox and whine about how unfairly you're being treated? "Unfair treatment" triggers Trump into pardon mode, and it doesn't matter what crimes you've been convicted for, or about to be charged with.
I would hate to be a military commander under this POS-in-Chief, knowing every decision you make is subject to review by Fox & Friends and overruled if Trump believes it will give him more personal power over the military.
Fortunately, most military commanders don't view tweets as legitimate orders.
Lock him up.

The Republicans have groomed large masses of people to their side. They carefully selected people that have already shown they are like sheep in following a leader. Evangelicals, Military, Southern Republicans, US oligarchs, hate groups like KKK, etc etc etc.

Now we're treated to .. tell all books and exposes' .. competing, "mine's bigger than yours", narratives on mission details .. and prancing in to appearances on daytime soaps (Fox and Friends). When did self-promotion become the new model?

Doesn't this fucking idiot know that while on active or reserve duty, you can't publicly slander officers, especially the Admiral in charge of the SEAL's?
That was the way it was when I served in the Military.
He can say whatever he wants as a civilian, hopefully very soon, but as of now, he's restricted in what he can say publicly about line officers.
I see an Article 15 in his near future

(47,370 posts)He appears to be breaking every rule and protocol there is in the military. I suppose he thinks that because Trump pardoned and defended him, he can skip over the chain of command and denigrate his superior officers. I've never been in the military, but even I know that is not how it works.
Meanwhile, he is setting himself up for some nasty repercussions. Apparently he is as dumb as he is disgusting.
In my unit, there were a couple of guys going around publicly slandering our commanding officer, they were hit with an Article 15, demoted in rank and fined, restricted to base for 2 months.
The Military has no sense of humor when it comes to that, and rightly so, it affects unit cohesion, morale which is paramount in the Military.

(12,355 posts)if memory serves me right, there are 5 different levels of discharge:
1. Honorable Discharge
2. General Discharge under Honorable Conditions
3. Other than Honorable (OTH) Discharge
4. Bad Conduct Discharge
5. Dishonorable Discharge
Hope that helps.
jmowreader
(50,552 posts)Dishonorable and Bad Conduct discharges can ONLY be issued as part of a court-martial sentence.
The administrative version of a BCD is an Other than Honorable discharge. The problem is, since Trump is now making all personnel decisions for Gallagher, Trump is certain to order that Gallagher receive an honorable discharge.
Which means we need to turn the guy Eddie Gallagher murdered into Trumps running mate. (I do not believe for a second the immunized SEAL who claims to have killed the ISIS fighter actually killed him. Since that SEAL could have never been prosecuted, pretending to have killed the kid wouldnt come back on him - and it got Gallagher out of a murder rap.)

(14,697 posts)But it doesn't need to be prosecuted immediately. The navy can take it's time investigating it, and take action, say, on Jan 23rd 2021.
They can even recall him to active duty to do it. Trumps pardon is only good as of the day he wrote it. New crimes aren't covered.
The navy can have the last word. All they need to do is keep it low key and wait.

(10,151 posts)Even in a courts martial, special qualification badges are not usually taken away.
In all the courts martials that I have sat on, about 15, only once was it removed. But it was removed for failure to maintain his qualifications not as a disciplinary act.
But I got to say, out right insulting the Admiral like he did is serious. Disrespecting a superior commissioned officer can damage a command's military readiness and causes discipline and leadership failures. Yeah, you might bitch to your shipmates but this out in the media. What if every enlisted decided to do this? What kind of impact would it have on the command?
Me thinks the Admiral is waiting to see what else this convicted criminal is going to say on Friendly Foxes. Might as well have video documentation as well as written.
