(Reuters) - Arizona Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw has been suspended until at least the end of the 2020 season for betting on National Football League games, the league said on Friday.
The NFL said in a statement an investigation uncovered no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised in any way.

(3,764 posts)I thought it said Cardinal Shaw... like in the Catholic Church. I started to read it to see which diocese Cardinal Shaw was head of. Of course, I realized my mistake as soon as I started reading the article.

So I know that the "rush" a gambler gets can become an addiction also.
Bill Bennett lost millions of dollars that way, and yet he started small too.

(4,990 posts)One of my relatives worked for a professional football team (non-playing capacity) and every employee, no matter what they did for the organization, went thru the same training every year where they covered betting on sports.
You were discouraged from gambling but told in no uncertain terms that gambling on your sport was an absolute, 100%, zero tolerance activity. Doing so would end your employment. No warning. No second chance. No appeal. You were DONE. Out the door. Permanently. You signed an agreement (notarized) to that effect.
They also said that players were reminded of this on a regular basis so there was no way to claim that you "didn't know".
