Construction Worker Injured In Fatal New Orleans Hotel Collapse Is Deported

Source: Huffington Post

A construction worker hurt in last month’s collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel construction site in New Orleans was deported to his native Honduras on Friday.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Bryan Cox said Delmer Joel Ramirez Palma, 38, was flown to Honduras from Alexandria International Airport, which is near several ICE detention facilities in central Louisiana.

Border Patrol officers arrested Ramirez Palma two days after he fell several stories as the upper floors of the hotel project caved in on Oct. 12.

Workplace safety advocates had hoped he could remain in the United States to facilitate the federal investigation of the collapse, which killed three workers and left dozens more injured.

“We’re deeply concerned about the gaping hole this leaves in the investigation into the Hard Rock Hotel collapse,” said Mary Yanik of the New Orleans Workers’ Center for Racial Justice.

She said she believes his arrest was in retaliation for reporting to a supervisor about construction shortcuts before the collapse, and for comments he made to reporters afterward

Note the last sentence "She (Mary Yanik of the New Orleans Workers' Center for Racial Justice) believes his arrest was in retaliation for reporting to a supervisor about construction shortcuts before the collapse, and for comments he made to reporters afterward."

I guess that sends a message to the thousands upon thousands of illegals to keep their mouths shut as they labor in underpaid, dangerous jobs.

every company has a formula for how much insurance they need to pay off the inevitable dead worker's families.

so, yeah, they are literally disposable.

It is illegal for an EMPLOYER to employee illegal aliens, but even the President is guilty of that in his resorts and hotels........When the FBI raided his one hotel/golf course, they even found the machines to manufacture fake green cards, Social Security cards with fraudulent numbers, etc. for all his illegal employees.

Holy shit. And all his followers fail to acknowledge the Hypocrisy in his illegal immigrant rants and racism even when shown to them..........

anybody who knows anything about pouring concrete could see the cut corners from the pics. they were stripping the forms too fast. the concrete wasnt cured.
they did this to save money on forms. which they often rent, btw, usually, not own.

pure and simple tripping over dollars to save pennies.
i hope their insurance company is stable.

instead of the term “illegals” favored by white supremacists?

That there are some going across the border (both going north and going south) that aren't simply undocumented but fleeing criminal charges, those indeed are "illegals".

A former American coworker of mine was prosecuted and convicted and prior to incarceration fled to Mexico, and now sits in a CA prison. He was an illegal migrant to Mexico and anyone with a criminal conviction heading north would also, in my book, be an illegal.

When will they be forced to produce documents showing that they checked his citizenship and/or immigration status?

When will they be forced to produce his pay documents showing that appropriate payroll taxes were deducted?

When will the person who hired him be arrested?
