Seattle-area officials report new coronavirus deaths, bringing US total to 6

Source: CNBC

At least four new patients have died from COVID-19 in Washington state, bringing the total number of deaths in the U.S. to at least six as the coronavirus spreads throughout local communities around Seattle, local health officials said Monday.

Public health officials near Seattle reported the nation’s first two deaths in a nearby suburb and several new cases over the weekend. Local officials said that about 50 residents and employees of a nursing care facility were being tested for the new coronavirus after several other people there tested positive. The outbreak there worsened on Monday.

“Unfortunately, we are starting to find more COVID-19 cases here in Washington that appear to be acquired locally here in Washington,” Washington state health officer Dr. Kathy Lofy told reporters at a press conference. “We now know that the virus is actively spreading in some communities.”

At the press conference, Lofy originally announced five total deaths in the area until Dr. Ettore Palazzo, the chief medical and quality officer at EvergreenHealth where several patients are being treated, announced a sixth death in Snohomish County that state health officials didn’t know about.

“So six should be the correct number,” Lofy said. “We were, at the department, aware of the five deaths from King County. We had not received the report about the Snohomish County patient just yet ... apologize for that”

The CDC told them NOT to bring back the Cruise Ship passengers to the U.S.

Not only did the Republicans ignore that, they took them all to California, and not Texas?????????

6 people have now died from coronavirus disease in Washington state; King County buying a motel to house isolated patients

Four new cases of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2, were confirmed in King County today. Two of those have died. One previously reported coronavirus patient in King County also has died.

This brings the totals in King County to 14 cases of COVID-19, including five deaths, according to Public Health – Seattle & King County.

In addition, a patient from Snohomish County has died, bringing the total deaths in the state to six.

“We expect the number of cases to increase in the coming days and weeks,” said Jeff Duchin, health officer for the public health agency, who stressed that most cases will be mild. “We are taking this situation extremely seriously.”

King County is purchasing a motel to house patients in isolation and setting up modular units to do the same, County Executive Dow Constantine said in a news conference Monday.
